My two cents on this exhibition: Paul was wary of Tyson’s power in the first couple of rounds. A good idea, as I’m sure there’s enough left in that department to hurt someone of JP’s ability level. Once it became apparent that the delivery system just wasn’t there, the younger man simply landed at will. Jake showed some class by carrying the old lion and not completely embarrassing him. I saw Mike wince at least twice after getting hit. Has anyone ever seen that before? Made me wince for him at home. The main event was a freak show, but the broadcast was saved by two fantastic undercards.

and I really wouldn't recommend it for long term brain health. I think you're going to get hit enough by a decent opponent regardless so "allowing" someone to hit you probably
isn't the best strategy. The best punch Mike landed was the slap the day before...
He carried him by VISIBLY backing off. I know everyone wants a 20 year old Tyson, but on THIS night Jake Paul could've really hurt him.

Tyson said 20 years ago he didn't want to disresepect the sport by losing to this caliber of fighter (Kevin McBride). So 20 years later he turns around and gives us this against Jake Paul...CubanGuyNYC

I mean, how would that have looked, a 27 year old possibly taking years off of a 58 year-old man's life by pummeling him mercilessly? As Teddy Atlas said, we're all suckers for tuning in to this fight, expecting it to be an actual fight. It was a brilliantly executed plan. The former baddest man on the planet, vowing to put the upstart Youtuber out of boxing once and for all. The training videos of Mike knocking his mitt and pad guy into the corner and busting his lip. And the Texas athletic commission sanctioning the event not as an exhibition, but an actual boxing match. It was the main event of sanctioned matches, with Taylor vs Serrano rematching for a championship. They even had former champions like Holyfied, Lewis and Jones saying the two-minute rounds gave Mike a chance to not get tired, which would make him more dangerous. They also suggested the 14oz pillows wouldn't protect Jake from Tyson's awesome power. The event was really just the biggest boxing exhibition ever, with over 60 million viewers, and thank goodness, it was FREE! Because of that, the only thing I spent was my time. I'm good with that.

One can easily tell that he never took any risks against Mike Tyson or over committed on any of his punches. Instead he chose to move and stay out of Mike's punching range.
While I agree that he carried Mike and didn't want to hurt him but at the same time he didn't want to do anything foolishly either by overcommitting on his punches and risk getting hurt himself.
Afterall, this was still Mike Tyson and we all know that all it takes is just for one punch to land; In order to get a knockout and Mike Tyson has one. Which was in my opinion why Jake Paul decided to play it safe.Last edited by champion4ever; 11-19-2024, 07:10 AM.SUBZER0ED likes this.

However, there is just something about the mystique and aura of Mike Tyson that keeps boxing fans still mesmerized by him.
I personally tuned in to see another Mike Tyson knockout. With Tyson no one could ever tell who will show up because his power is so unpredictable.
