I'm a casual, so I need an explanation. What is the point of being called "a #1 contender" if the interim champ would get a shot at the world champ before the #1 contender? Isn't the interim champ essentially the #1 contender, as well? Can someone shed some light on this?

number one contenders in all four sanctioning bodies are guaranteed a title shot.

Lesser titlists, like interim, are guaranteed a title fight with the title above them.

A number one contender being given an interim fight allows the champion time to make fights like unification and undisputed without denying the contender a timely title fight.

I wonder why is it people wait so long to cry about how ratings work. Yup, Larry got moved up because the two guys ahead of him are no longer rated above him. Wow. Shocking. Must have been some corruption.

The time to ***** about Larry's rating at HW was before he was named #1 contender. Bitching now just means you don't pay attention.
