Running On An Empty Stomach First Thing In The Morning

that is bad for you. eat something small and light like a chocolate bar twenty minutes before you leave

Yeah i wouldnt advise it although i have done it myself many times. I think everybody will feel different (like me i would feel sick if i ran long distances on empty an stomach). Me personally i also feel a bit lethargic because i just woke up and i sometimes get a bad headache (usually because im dehydrated after sleep) even if i drank a litre before i go its not long enough to rehydrate. It also depends on how long im running, a light jog or warm up is fine but running long distances without eating anything is not good. I personally work out afternoon/evenings/night although if you can wake up early and go for a long run then thats great. If you cant eat much 1st thing in the morning (like me) have some fruit or a shake/juice dont run on empty because just like a car you'll gas out. No fuel - No energy!Last edited by jonesy; 04-06-2010, 02:07 PM.

I try to run on a fasted stomach as often as possible, perhaps it's psychological but I feel it makes a difference. It's harder on your body, but pushing yourself like that is great for mental discipline.
I myself have never felt dizzy or lethargic, but I suppose it suits some people more than others. Just make sure that you do a good 20-30mins of stretching beforehand to warm-up rather than hop straight out of bed into a jog.
