David Stevens, once an accomplished amateur, is now a 14-2 (10 KOs) super middleweight contender and he faces unbeaten Petr “The Surgeon” Khamukov on Friday, June 20.
Khamukov now lives in Woodland Hills, California, but the 13-0 (6 KOs) contender is from Labinsk in Russia and their fight, at the Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California, is a joint event staged by Paco Presents, Golden Boy Promotions and Robert Garcia’s House of Champions.
Stevens turned professional in 2018, having won two golds at the Junior Olympics and multiple other amateur titles.
The 24-year-old lost a split decision to quality Uzbek Bektemir Melikuziev last November having previously defeated the 14-0 Sean Hemphill in 2023.
“I have been hard at work in the gym and waiting for an opportunity to get back into the ring,” said Stevens. “I am thankful to Golden Boy for getting me this main event fight, and I can’t wait to show the world I have what it takes to be at the top.”
Khamukov was a 2016 Russian Olympian and boxed more than 100 times internationally. Now 33, he has subsequently divided his time between the US and Mexico.
“My team and I are excited to finally showcase what we’ve been working on,” said Khamukov. “I’m looking forward to showing everyone why I’m called ‘The Surgeon.’ I know David Stevens is a tough, rugged fighter, but there are levels to this game. I’m here to show I belong. I’m willing to fight the best and leave my mark in the game.”
Paco Damian said: “I want to thank my partners at Golden Boy, especially Eric Gomez, as well as Robert Garcia’s House of Champions and the great team at Thunder Studios for helping make this second exciting event happen.
