a question about the heavyweight limit and moving up

got a question for you fellas, suppose someone moves up in weight say from light heavy to heavy[in this era]does he necessarily HAVE to make 200 pounds?would he be able to come in at a comfortable in weight say 183 or something like that?would the state commissions have an issue with that?

Weight limits are limits, you can weigh as much below them as you like, no?

In the old days people challenged for the HW title at very low weights. Conn for instance came in very low against Louis, and if you go back farther you get smaller numbers.

Technically Mayweather could fight Klitschko and come in at 149. Though Vegas wouldn't sanction it.

Thats interesting. I would think you could come in under weight of the limit and still fight that said fighter.

I know that's the official weight, but he was in fact 198-199 (see the Beyond Glory on Jones-Ruiz)

But yeah whatever, we are talking about official weights here, sorry for nitpicking uselessly.

Cruiser limit was 190 back then

Valuev weighed 328 when he fought Monte Barrett, who weighed 222 1/2.
THAT fight was sanctioned, and it was a 106 lb weight difference.

That would be like a 224 lb boxer fighting a bantamweight!

It doesn't seem right, does it?
