    Guys who defied the scale

name some guys throughout history who defied the scales by beating much bigger fighters

either guys who moved up the weightclasses and beat bigger guys or old school guys who outright fought guys several weightclasses above them without moving up...or old school small heavyweights who beat big heavyweights

duran, pacquiao, and armstrong are ones that immediately come to mind

Harry Greb and mick walker beat alot of heavyweights and lightheavies, both were middlweights at best, sam langford also comes to mind, also la motta beat alot of lightheavies and the odd heavyweight. Stanley ketchel give away 25 pounds to jack johnson and dropped him before geting knocked out seconds later. Also duran was only a natural lightweight but he beat barkley and moore and was schooling hagler for 12 rounds. Also joe louis's trainer jackie blackburn often beat larger opponents.

Much as I like Duran, I can't agree with that at all. I know Duran was ahead on two cards after 12, but those judges were scoring the fight about as well as Stevie Wonder would have. The fight was pretty competitive, but Hagler was definitely winning most of the rounds. Credit Duran for even being competitive with an all-time great middleweight, but it really wasn't that close, imo, and he certainly wasn't schooling him.

As for Harry Greb, he defeated five men who fought Jack Dempsey for the heavyweight title, despite never weighing much more than 160. He would likely have beaten another, had Carpentier not ducked him like the plague, and would have taken on Dempsey himself, had he been given the chance.

No for me duran was controlling the fight and was winning til he tuck his foot of the gas. Also you forgot to mention that greb stood dempsey on his head when they sparred, that might have been the reason why greb never got the chance. Greb was a good fighter but o man was he a ****ing dirty fighter, actually thats insulting to a dirty fighter, but fair play to the guy he spent the last bit of his career blind in one eye

Well I disagree totally. I watched the fight again recently, and I can't believe that anyone would have Duran winning after 12. I certainly didn't see Duran "controlling the fight" and I'd be interested to know which rounds you gave him.

Charley Burley destroyed JD Turner in 7 rounds despite him weighing about 70 lbs more.
