More than once! Why didnt hagler take the challenge? hagler spent most his career calling out smaller fighters, but refused to fight dwight who was only 5 foot 6 which is a small for a lightheavyweight so hagler would not of been giving to much size away anyway! the fight has classic written all over it

Miss Marvis only wanted to fight smaller men for paydays. That's why he spent his early years as middleweight champion calling out welterweights.
Hagler was terrified of Qawi and Michael Spinks who also wanted a piece of him.
Not sure about it being a classic.I personally think Qawi would have ripped him a new one.
A great fight that never happened was Qawi vs Marvin JohnsonLast edited by Snopkins; 05-04-2010, 07:43 PM.

Hagler was a middleweight, we are talking a 15 pound difference here. Hagle called out some junior middleweights that's not the same thing plus Hagler was only doing that because the guys at middleweight he already beat. And he wanted a payday. There was not much catch weight fighting going on back then.

Hagler ducked Qawi and Spinks about as much as Monzon ducked Foster, There was no call for the fight and Hagler had no trouble making the middleweight limit. Both divisions had plenty of available contenders and alot of fights to be made.

Why would a perfectly proportioned 5'9" 160lb undisputed champion want to move all the way up to 175 when you've got greater fighters such as Duran, Hearns and Leonard, all forming a queue to fight him?.. Quawi would have been a great match, but no greater than any of the above..
As for the match ups, i'd edge towards Hagler against Quawi.. He was one one of the best southpaws of all time, and would out reach Quawi and dissect him for a late cut's stoppage.. Spinks would only win by the skin of his teeth in what would have been his hardest fight by far..Last edited by mickey malone; 05-05-2010, 02:12 AM.
