Both of these guys were master tacticians in the ring, but which should rank higher all time at heavyweight? Should Gene Tunney get the nod with wins over Dempsey, Heeney, Risko and Gibbons, with two title defenses and only one loss in his entire career? Or should it be Ezzard Charles who defended his title 9 times and beat the likes of Walcott, Louis, Bivins, Layne and Elmer Ray? Vote and discuss.

Tunney's wins over Dempsey are over-rated, IMO, because that was no longer a prime Dempsey.
Both fighters were at their best at Light Heavyweight, and Charles is generally regarded as the greatest Light Heavyweight of all time.

Charles IMO. wins over Satterfield, Walcott, Burley, and 2 epic fights with Marciano seals it for me.

Skillwise these two fighters are pretty even with a slight advantage going in Charles favor. Both had excellent speed of both hand a foot. The biggest difference I see would be in Tunney's far superior chin and his more potent punching power. Ezzard was never the same after killing Baroudi (sp?) and just didn't have the same killer instinct.
