    Is Eder Jofre Overrated?

He seems to rank EXTREMLY high on ATG lists. But his resume of wins arent really that strong and he was beaten by argubaly the best fighter he ever fought in Harada twice.

While his dominace & skills were spectacular does he get overrated?

Bert Sugar ranked him higher than Carlos Monzon, Marvin Hagler, Sandy Saddler, Pernell Whitaker, Bob Fitzsimmons, & Roy Jones.

Ring Magazine ranked him higher than Barney Ross, Micky Walker, Tony Canzoneri, & Thomas Hearns.

    Both argubale decisions, though.

And Jofre is about the most dominant Bantamweight ever. His resume may not be stacked like someone like Jimmy Mclarnin for example but he has a good resume.

Overrated? Hmm, not particularly. Maybe a little bit.

Still, he's the greatest Bantamweight of all time.

IMO, Jofre is underrated. I never realized how great he was until I finally saw him. His record speaks for itself.

Judging by his skills and accomplishments I think he's underrated too. I was actually surprised to see a thread here a while back about how he's overrated.

As for Sugar's ratings, I never take him seriously.

It is hard to overrate someone so good, but I have heard ppl refer to him as a south american Ray Robinson, so in that sense he is a bit overrated (only a bit, mind), but he is one hell of a fighter. An ATG no doubt, I personally like his versatility the best.

Wasn't it Nat Fleischer who said that?

I am trying to remember, I think also someone at IBRO or IBHOF. Anyways it is the kind of "overrating" I like, because it is not a "big overrating" and gets him more to known people, and I think he was a great great fighter, who ppl mostly ignore these days. So kinda like a "white lie"

I think I will watch me a little bit of Jofre tonight.

I don't want to say too much as I have not seen much of Jofre, he may be overated a bit, I have seen him way ahead of Darcy (that's what I'd call overated),,,, there is no way in hell Eder is better than Fitzsimmons, if any of you out there have a ATG list with Bob in their top 10, they will get no argument from me, I also don't think he can be compared to saddler but he is an ATG..... just that he's below Canzoneri, Ross, Fitz, Walker or probably Hagler....... Now I think Marvin gets overated by some, but not as much as Duran. I really don't see Duran in the Top 20 at all, I don't think he faced a lot of great LW's...... I need to see more of Jofre because I may be UNDERATING him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A short time ago I made a video for youtube, "the Top 6 LW's", I had Duran at #3,..... and some spastic called me a FWit for not putting him at #1,...... I replied to him that he was a Nut, and I suggested he read up on Benny and Gans before making a further fool of himself....... it goes to show, you can't please everybody.

I must add that I do think he's great, but not as great as Fitzsimmons for example. I have seen him way underrated too on some lists. I don't think he's #1 at BW..... I think that honour is probably Dixon or McGovern..... Terrible Terry may not have been one who was great for a long time, guys like McGovern are Comets, that style of fighter burns out, but who cares if they are that good. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think the very little guys have to be considered apart from those above LW, they don't have HW power but the level of reflexes that a BW needs is on another level to the bigger half of the spectrum, hell I've seen BW's so fast that the eye simply doesn't register it all, a bit like trying to remember every joke from a Robin Williams stand up routine. Yep those little blokes are really something when it comes to speed and reflexes. Imagine Eder Jofre fighting a HW with the Melbourne Cricket Ground as his ring........ lol, that would be funny watching a HW trying to nail Jofre while chasing him around the MCG.... lol..... Mike Tyson would never catch him that's for sure,... but I'm not sure how Eder would manage to actually hurt mike.
