Ali - foreman: Foreman clearly beat the 10 count

The only way Foreman could have won that fight is by knockout. The judges were clearly very much Ali biased. This was a very evenly matched fight but check out the scores:

Zach Clayton 4-2-1 Ali (Only 2 rounds to Foreman)

Nourridine Adalla 3-0-4 Ali (No rounds to Foreman)

James Taylor 4-1-2 Ali (Only one round to Foreman)


Poor George was looking to be royally shafted on the scorecards if the fight went to decision.

Granted, the fight was right to be stopped when it was. George was exhausted. Ali could have left him pretty seriously beat up if he had been allowed to fight on. Ali would have turned on some seriously nasty combinations!

George was pretty used up anyways. Gil Clancy was credited with warning Foreman before that fight about pacing himself and training habits. I guess Foreman figured he would knock everybody out in a just few rounds. He might have continued doing that probably if it weren't for Ali.

Why don't more people talk about this. Watch the tape, foreman was up at 8 or 9 but the ref counted him out anyways.

I agree. It's even worse when we know Foreman has got up and won fights from even bigger punches. Lyle nearly stopped him and he still won. A lot of people are going to act like there is no controversy because it's Ali, but If Foreman got up he probably would have lost a decision since Ali didn't have a whole lot in the tank either.

I don't understand this train of thought bro, even Foreman has said he was done in this fight. Where's the controversy?

But he had been hurting Lyle in that fight and was still able to keep going and still clearly able to hurt Lyle. Against Ali, he hadn't hurt him, was completely exhausted and just done. The Lyle fight was a knock down brawl with both guys getting knocked down and hurt. Ali was beating Foreman and Foreman wasn't hurting Ali. He didn't have any chance of getting up and suddenly knocking Ali out or down as he did Lyle and there hadn't been a single sign he even could have done so. If he had shown he could hurt Ali or had dropped him and even staggered him badly in the fight, then sure, let him go on. However, he hadn't shown anything remotely like that and was just getting beaten by then without any power on his shots coming back and was on his way to a prolonged, horrid beating if it went on.

This is how I see it too. He was mentally beaten as well as physically.

Who cares. Foreman was done the same way Tyson was done against Douglas. And after all, it is the referee's decision. I decide to give credit to Ali for pulling off the stoppage instead of trying to say the referee was pulling for Foreman. Come on now.

I loved this fight, and Foreman had zero chance of winning, whether or not there was an issue with the count. Foreman was at a fundamental disadvantage when it came to understanding the sport and how it was applied. Ali's team and Ali himself knew that the only thing going for Foreman was raw power. George Foreman was probably the strongest heavyweight that's ever lived "but," his strength, I think as applied to someone that has skill becomes unsophisticated and a wasted physical effort.

There is no style to Foreman, just testosterone and bully. He plowed forward like a combine, tearing up opponents as if they were the chaff left over from all those spinning blades. Foreman was a powerhouse but Ali exposed Foreman as someone that could be patiently waited out.

I think Foreman was one of Ali's greatest victories as it applies to the odds that were against him.

Sheridan caused a lot of confusion because he picked up with his own rough estimate of where the ref was in the count and was behind. But even if George did get up and beat the count, he was in no condition to win the fight and probably would've went down again.
