Was Sugar ray Robinson in his prime in the Fullmer and basillio fights?

The sad fact is, as Bert Sugar and Shriley Povich point out, we have no footage of him in his absolute prime. Just articles, accounts. He was amazing at MW so we can imagine how awesome he'd have been at WW.
GOAT.

his prime would be from 1943 thru 1951 with his fight with lamotta for the md title being the end of his prime. He was however very good until 1958 or so.

He was fighting men like Stan Harrington when he was beyond his prime and fighting HARD for 10 rounds! He loved to fight Stan because he got to go to Hawaii nd hang out for a few weeks. I think he fought Stan twice in a month, loved Hawaii! You see Sugar fought till 1965 and even far past his prime there were skills left because he was as close to a "natural boxer/fighter" as theres ever been! he was the best Welter & Middle ever, he was a Middleweight for over 10 years! From 1943 till 1951 he went 91-0 he retired then came back 2 1/2 years later to take back his title! In all he won the title 5 times! He was relivant till 58-59 and then world toured it the last few years. He lost some decsions but anyone IN boxing knows how that goes when the legend comes in "picking up the pennies" against the home town favorite its the home towns boys turn! But then again no to man6y people here actually know what the **** their talking about!!
barnburner you talk out of your azz son, your the biggest BS'er on here and you need to get your facts right! After the Pender bout Pender came to New York and got KO'd. Robinson had meaningfull bouts till 1958 NOT 51!!
Get your facts right or just be quiet and learn! Ray Corso

In 52 he stops Graziano.
In 52 he RTD asgainst Maxim for the LtHvy Title ahead easily on all 3 cartds!
In 55 he beats Castellani.
In 55 He Ko's Olson twice!
In 57 he splits with Fulmer a 15 dec. loss and a Ko win in 5!
In 57/58 splits with Basillo.
In 60 splits with Pender loss by split Dec. Win by KO!!!
In 61 Gene Fulmer a draw & a loss!
In 63 beats Dupas a 29 yr old 98/17/6 fighter who always came to fight!
He then fought guys like stan Harrington in Stans home town to generate some funds and interest in boxing. If you were a 6 round prelim kid and fought on a Sugarman card you made more money than on any other card!
People who never saw Sugarman before could careless that his skills had eroded, they just wanted to see the man! You people don't understand how that man was revered. And its plain to see that this generation of "fans" would rather compare wins & losses instead of learning what solid technique is and look for that will to win in a fighter instead of how much "noise" he makes!! Whatever, I'm tired of this!! Ray
