Top French boxers of all time

Obviously Marcel Cerdan. And Georges Carpentier. But are there others?

Also why do you guys think that boxing doesn't seem to have taken off there as much as it has in other European countries?

I'm French but I'm not very knowledgeable regarding History.
However I would say that Fabrice Tiozzo, Jean-Marc Mormeck and Laurent Boudouani (maybe the most gifted) deserve to be mentionned. These guys were in some great fights, very pleasing to watch.
There were also Jean-Baptiste Mendy, Mayar Monshipour and my favourite French boxer of all time: the superb Julien Lorcy (have a look at his fights against Mendy, Castillo, Hatakayema or even Juan Diaz to understand what I'm talking about).
2 others very important fights in French boxing History: Rene Jacquot massive upset over Don Curry and Thierry Jacob (his son Romain just won the EBU 130 title against Boschiero in one of the best fight of the year so far) victory over the great Daniel Zaragoza in a brilliant fight.

Tonna was a very decent middleweight - put a dent in Minter's record and Kevin Finnegan's as well. Both wins were revenged by the Brits and Tonna got dealt with by Monzon.....but who didn't in that era?

Good Call on Boudouani being the most talented. I watched him first in the olympics, and he looked very gifted. Somehow his pro career didn't live up to expectations.

It is odd that France has do few notable top fighters. I guess the tradition just isn't there. The Acaries brothers carried the sport there for many years, but after them not much is happening.

Another boxer that deserves mention in this thread is Daniel Londas. A fine technician with decent punch. Nice fella too.

Anaclet Wamba seems to have had a decent cruiserweight run in the '90s.

Had Jerome Le Banner just trained as a boxer, I think he'd have done ok as a heavyweight...
