    Underrated / Underappreciated fighters

Who are some non-active fighters that you feel are underrated / underappreciated or perhaps even just largely forgotten, even though they had some great fights that brought people entertainment, had some great wins in their career or both

I always felt bit sad that there rarely is talk about the likes of Michael Moorer, Wilfred Benitez, Mike McCallum, Samart Payakaroon and Michael Carbajal among the regular fans and forums. Hardcore fans of course know them but still, I feel like that those guys have given a lot and had a lots of skills and grit but never got the praise they deserved. Ricardo "Finito" Lopez also comes to my mind but then again, I do believe that he is mentioned every now and then here, if not elsewhere then at least here in boxing history sub forum

And in terms of pure entertainment, Ivan Robinson comes to my mind. Had some very entertaining bouts, especially the two fights against the late Arturo Gatti

Sorry, might be a confusing thread and some mistakes there, been awake for a long time

Emmanuel Augustus, Sharmba Mitchell, Marco Antonio Barrera doesnt get mentioned unless Prince Naseem comes up. Glencoffe Johnson, and DeMarcus Corley.

Its funny though how boxers rep changes over time. For example Marciano was for many years overrated now hes definitely underrated. Holmes and macallum were both underrated and are now overrated.

      Currently underrated,

Hagler and jack johnson seem to have lost their lustre a bit at the moment.

Forget everyone you mentioned and concentrate on Art Hafey.

Oh so many... I tend to think Mayorga is one. He beat some really talented guys, Forrest and 3 heads Lewis. Razor Ruddock another one...Had really good power and fast hands coming up and was a handful. Those are a few.

Thought he was called 6 heads Lewis. Did he get surgery to get half the heads removed?

The list of under-appreciated fighters is more than 30x bigger than the list of appreciated one's with most of today's fans and the fans you see in NSB. Most people just know Ali, Tyson, Robinson, Hagler, Duran and then when they come across a name they aren't familiar with it's off to boxrec to discredit them because they've not heard of the opponents but have decided they've read their entire career and the circumstances around every opponent and fight within 2 minutes or less.
