    1930's ITALIAN, IRISH AND ***ISH BOXERS YOUR THOUGHTS?

    They had a lot of Great Italian, Irish and ***ish fighters, during the 1930's. I met several of them, and all were great guys. I would like to inquire your thoughts of these, four Great Boxers;

    1. Sammy Angott
    2. Lou Ambers
    3. Jimmy Mc Larnin
    4. Barney Ross

    Thank you.

    Ambers was incredible with lateral movements... Hard to catch with a clean shot. Ross was impecable.

    Angott One of those fine fighters from Pittsburgh!
    McLarin, real power to spare!

    Generally speaking, fghters of this time were generally workman like, tough as nails, skilled, and talented. And they fought a lot!

      They were fighters who could solve an equation, especially the ***s.

        I think those are 4 of the greatest fighters ever.

        Ambers might not belong on the same tier as the other 3, but remember he was a hobo in the years leading up to his professional debut.

        I would actually rank Angott a top 5 Lightweight. His reputation as a clincher and spoiler has damaged his reputation. But i'm fairly certain it's unfair.

        Ross and McLarnin are really difficult to rank, especially the latter. McLarnin was like an upgraded Pacquiao and Langford. Everything you've heard said praising them applies two-fold to Jimmy. But he had a bit of the Dempsey, Walker and Baer spirit about him. Wisely, he left Boxing when he had his fill.

        Ross was an all American hero. He really moved the sport forward, like McFarland before him. So far as I can tell, he and Loughran were the first champions to win through pure Boxing skil. Ross fought a higher level of competition when winning his belts. You can understate Ross's contribution to the sport.
