    If Marciano went for 50-0.....

If Rocky Marciano for the "golden 50" to end his career with 50-0, who do you think he would've fought and do you think he would've remained undefeated? I think he would've fought Floyd Patterson, and he would've beaten him in either rounds 5 or 6.

Yeah I agree, probably would've fought Patterson, but that would've been one hell of a fight, I can see Marciano nailing Suzie Q to bring him down in the late rounds.

I feel that if Marciano's career lasted any longer, it would have become inevitable for him to fight Floyd Patterson.

But with Patterson's glass jaw, I predict that it would be a knockout in the later rounds for Marciano.

Marciano would NOT have fought Patterson for his 50th win, and it would have more than likely been Nino Valdes or Bob Baker who got the next shot...Just do some research from the late '55/early '56, and you'll find that any talks of another potential title fight of Marciano's generally involved those two guys.

Patterson's never mentioned, and I wonder why?

        Oh I know...It's probably cause Patterson wasn't even considered a top ten ranked heavyweight contender at the end of 1955, as seen here;

        Champion: Rocky Marciano

        1: Archie Moore
        2: Bob Baker
        3: Tommy Jackson
        4: John Holman
        5: Willie Pastrano
        6: Nino Valdes
        7: Johnny Summerlin
        8: Bob Satterfield
        9: Young Jack Johnson
        10: Ezzard Charles

I think Marciano would have knocked Patterson out too, but it would have been an intriguing matchup nonetheless. It's a shame Marciano didn't go for 50-0 but I suppose it's better to end a bit too soon than stay around too long.

Marciano retired due to a back injury I think. He was finding training and fighting increasingly difficult due to this and he took on peoples advice and retired. He was smart and stayed retired and ignored offers of a comeback although he did plan to come out of retirement to face liston who he wasn't very fond of.

marciano was scheduled to fight nino valdez in jan. 2 1956 but valdez was upset by bob satterfield so the fight was called off. a marciano-valdez june bout was scheduled but valdez continued to lose in 1956 thus eliminating that bout.

Cus D amato in 56 told marciano patterson was a year away. marciano didnt want to wait till 1957.

if marciano was going to go for 50-0, it would have been against either nino valdez, bob baker, hurricane jackson or possibly floyd patterson in late 1956.

a marciano vs machen bout could have came off in late 1956 too as machen burst into the heavyweight scene in 1956
