Comments Thread For: Ranking the decades in heavyweight boxing

According to at least one jeetwin360.commenter, we are presently in the midst of the "worst heavyweight era ever." Not all opinions are good ones, of course, and brief recourse to a history book and to the series of heavyweight main events to which weve been treated over the past five years should be sufficient to disabuse anyone of that particular viewpoint.

Gutsy move writing this article!!! This is especially true with the percentage of posts that say this is the worst generation ever.

2020’s have no business being towards the top as of now. 1. It’s too early. 2. This decade has been a massive disappointment so far thanks to the continuous ducking that goes on, the lack of Ppv success and lack of a true face of boxing that put on mega events that captivates the larger public. This decade has allowed UFC to gain popularity over boxing and that’s all thanks to the boxers and promoters minimizing risks consistently.

Been saying this for a while. Heavyweight division has been great the last several years. People romanticize the past, this is a great group and have been all fighting each other.

I'd put the 70s, 80s and 90s over this HW era at least. Pre 70s is too old timey for me to really be able to judge it fairly. I'd say the 2020s (so far) and second half of the 2010s were better than the 00s though.

The UFC has been gaining on boxing since the mid 00s. Its not a 2020s thing.

            2010's above 1980's is mental.

Yes it’s been gaining for a while but in those other decades the biggest events were by far still boxing. Minus the exhibition side shows, the only boxing ppv that sold a million in the 2020’s was tank vs Ryan, unless there’s a matchup I’m forgetting. Prior decades saw boxing ppv records being set and broken continuously, this decade hasn’t come close.

Who has ducked? Fury was going to fight Joshua but was stopped by the Wilder lawsuit. Usyk has fought everyone. The Saudis are making sure the supporting HWs are fighting each other so we've had Dubois-Hgroviz, Dubois - Ped cheat, Anderson-Bakole, Zhang-Parker, Parker-Wilder, Sanchez-Kabayel and we are getting Kabayel-Zhang and Parker-Dubois and likely a better-late-than-never Fury-Dubois and not to mention Fury-Usyk 1 for undisputed.
Can't see what ppv success had to do with it - although I acknowledge the part business plays in pro-boxing I'm far more interested in getting the fights.
UC is more popular but that doesn't stop me enjoying boxing and doesn't affect the quality of the boxing as shown by the fights I mention above.

2010s couldn't carry Larry Holmes' jockstrap

The 00's is far and beyond the worst HW era there's ever been.
