    How long till mastering speedbag?

How long did it take you guys to master the speed bag?

I just got it, and tried it on my first day. And i am horrible at it.

I guess practise makes perfect, but how do i avoid hitting it in a circulating

motion? Yet, i also cant keep up with the speed bag so i go at a slower pace.

All the other boxing exercises i can do such as:

Get up at 5:30 and run 5 Km (20minutes)
Skipping - Very good at, can also do dancing footsteps.
heavy bag - Consistent, hit fast with minimum power
Pad Work - Me and my dad are do it together, (no boxing experience)
Shadowboxing - Know all the punch basics and footwork, throw variety of combos.

    Speed bag.....****, plain **** fest.

I've never been in a boxing gym, but I have seen a lot of fights, and have footwork and the punch basics down already, i will soon go to a gym but for now, this is what i do, to progress slowly and slowly which i am.
I've done Muay Thai, and it helped my footwork and jab.

What I'm really trying to say is how long it take you to master speed bag? or just keeping up with it.

    Thanks much help appreciated...

It took me about six months of hitting it 5-10 minutes a day to get it to look respectable. The speed bag is just like everything else in boxing. It looks easy, but it isn't.

Start with a 5-beat rhythm, so that when you hit it it bounces 4 more times:
      RIGHT-bop-bop-bop-bop
      LEFT-bop-bop-bop-bop

Get to where you can keep this rhythm, even if it's slow, but so that there is no change in the rhythm. Hit it light and slow and concentrate on the rhythm. Once you can keep a 5-beat, speed it up. After a few weeks, when you can do a 5-beat really fast and consistently, start over again super-slow and light and teach yourself how to do a 3-beat:

      RIGHT-bop-bop
      LEFT-bop-bop
      RIGHT-bop-bop
      LEFT-bop-bop

      It takes time.

I have never been in a boxing gym, so i can't say i'm good,

but i know i'm not bad.

i fight at a southpaw stance, maybe that could be an issue?

Well either way, its my first day, i don't expect much, but thanks both of you,

        I'll keep that in mind.

Took about 2 months to get decent, still not perfect 10 years later.
