Gaining (muscle) weight while staying conditioned/lean.

I find it difficult to put on weight, so at the moment I'm pretty lean (5"9, around 150lbs), but I'd like to add 6-10lbs of muscle. Should I cut down on boxing/running/cardio exercise and concentrate on eating and lifting heavy for a while to gain muscle, but will I put on a lot of fat? Basically, I'm looking for some advice on how to gain muscle weight fairly quickly.

Thanks in advance, and apologies for this not being the most coherent post.

Protein, my man! that is how you feed the muscles, you stimulate them in the gym (tear) then growth takes place outside the gym, well after you have recuperated (mend.)

the formula is ("tear"...then "mend") and by all means, do not hit the same muscle group for 72 hours. Small muscles like calves, forearms, you can hit every other day.

      don't forget to stretch!!

The thing I was taught is, for example do one set off press ups a week (tear) then do other things like press ups, sit ups etc. Your muscles should recover while doing press ups and stuff but if you overdo pressups you'll just tear your muscles again.

buy and read Hardcore Bodybuilding: A Scientific Approach
            by Frederick C. Hatfield (Author)
Difficult read but well worth it as it explain how to use bodybuilding techniques for other sports to gain muscle mass. It goes over supliments, sleep, meals, just about everything. I had to read it twice to really get it.

I lift in the morning and do my cardio at night. I have 4 protein shakes a day and I eat about 3 to 4 times in between them shakes. I also take multiple supplements and vitamins on top of all that. When building muscle and maintaining endurance, it is what it is. You lift weights, feed you muscles (protein) within 30 min of working out (A MUST).

You also need to do cardio but let your body rest after lifting. I will sometimes run/spar before I work out almost like a warm up. But its not hard to do. You just need to be dedicated and get your mind right. There are a too many things out there to distract people. i.e. Alcohol, drugs, bad food, etc etc. You must treat your body like a machine. If you want it to run right, you must only feed it top quality foods and liquids. Your body will talk and tell you what it needs, you just need to understand how to understand it. Anyway it takes a lot of discipline. But ONCE you get yourself into a routine its all down hill. Trust me.
