I made this thread the same reason someone would make a thread if they ran 15 miles or something..

For some reason weightlifting is such a sore subject around here as soon as i bring it up everyone gets defensive and flips out... and its not surprising how many people said "well when i was 17 i could bench 400 pounds and i weighed less then you"

First of all you may know alot of pro fighters and golden glove champs and trainers and blah blah that never lifted, but that doesnt mean its not a part of boxing. Whether you like it or not weightlifting is a legitimate part of boxing training. may not be a necessary part but a legitimate part.

And second of all im not overrating the bench press, its not liek i go to the gym every day and just do bench press and bicep curls. Its just an accomplishment for me to bench 225 because only a year and a half ago i couldnt even bench 100 pounds.
its not a integral part of boxing, in fact most pro boxers use body weight calisthenics, ie. pacquaio. if the best can get to the top with out weights, that makes lifting weights as not essential. thus its only a supplement.

and second nobody gives a damn about a weak 225lb bench in a boxing forum, bench 300lb will not get you knock outs. If you want anyone to care go to a body building or power lifting forum to get laughed at.

Well I did the 225... about 5 or 6 times with ease. Could of did more but my point was made.(sure I could find that old thread and you can look at the dates he said it and the dates I did) Oh, by the way it's on Youtube and I was weighing 160lbs. You want the video?

Just because someone can do something you or a lot of ppl probably can't doesn't mean it can't happen. Just mean with your or their ability it doesn't happen.

Holla at me if ya want the link.
I've just never known someone who can bench that much p4p.

thats like me benching 260 lbs, which seems like an obscene amount considering my size. (which I can't do).

          thats good
I maxed at 225 at a bodyweight of 155lbs but that was probably my best exercise

I find it funny that the guy with a picture of himself with his shirt off in his avatar is mad at me for talking about lifting weights

and weight training is not a part of boxing, I know professional fighters and golden gloves champs that never lifted weights, trainers also suggest against weight lifting.

and how much one can bench press has nothing to do with with the art of boxing, hell its not even a bench mark for how strong a individual is.

I made the mistake of overrating the bench press just like many other newbs when I was young. I was repping 245lbs during senior year in high school. all it did was sculpted my chest shoulders and tris, sure the ladies loved it, but did little to improve my athletic performance.
              Dude calm the hell down....

If he wants to make a thread about his bench press in a TRAINING section of a forum, then there isnt a problem.

And weight TRAINING CAN BE apart of boxing... some boxers use it, and some don't... but it is definitely apart of the sport regardless..

And even if it wasn't... he can make a thread about it if he wants too

                  Nice avatar *****

im just trying to reveal your own igorance to yourself because at one time I was ignorant just like you, and im trying to show you that talking about benching 225 in boxing is more out of place then to a bodybuilding area,

I don't know maybe you look up to boxer and perhaps you want to prove that you are as strong as boxers that don't lift?

i mean there is a powerlifting/bodybuilding websites on the internet for a reason.

and lastly for anyone to concentrate that much time and effort on the bench must be bumptious in their training and is only doing it for the beach body look, let me guess you want to curl 185lbs too right?

this topic is less relevant then running, at least road work is beneficial to the sport.
