    Cutting weight.

Now, I'm sure this is asked fairly often... but, I'm asking again anyway

I'm currently at 86KG (Around 189 lbs), and aiming to drop to 81KG (Around 178 lbs). At the moment, i'm training MMA on Monday and boxing on Wednesday, and trying to get into the routing of jogging on Thursdays. But, so far, i'm not dropping weight, I seem to be cutting fat, but making up the weight i'm losing with muscle gain.

So, how's the best way to go about cutting the weight? I'm guessing diet will be the main part of it, but I don't know too much about nutrition and all that, so any advice would be appreciated

I would go with low gi's and high protein .Your from the UK so low gi's like Albran or oatmeal for breakfast infact i'll post a link .I would say snack on fruit but even some boxers are carefull with what fruit they eat cause some have high gi's I read .Also eat small meals try and cut your portions to about 6 small meals ( eat every 2 and a half to 3 hours and don't eat a couple of hours before bed ) .Do this man and run fast and hard and it should fall off
Swap white for brown in bread pasta and rice that's what i'd do .

Nutrition plays a huge role but so does your workouts. what do they consist of?
I have never trained for MMA but am a army spec ops veteran and amateur boxer so I can only speak on what I know. and what I know is weight lifting will get you no where when it comes to boxing and when you want to cut weight for any reason. focus on hardcore cardio, sprints, conditioning circuits, shadow box, try stepping up your workouts to 5-6 days a week.

        This is not true.

        Start by Decreasing....

        -Dairy Intake
        -Sodium Intake
        -Carbohydrate Intake

        Keep eating

        -Green Vegetables
        -Protein Intake

loosing weight is all about cals in vs cals out. you can loose weight quickly by dehydrating yourself before a fight. but this is unhealthy and you will put it back on realy soon when you drink anything. but to loose fat you need to burn more cals that you use. you can either eat not much or do alot of exercise. on average men burn about 2500 cals a day, so aim for 2000, and add in some exercises. weight lifting is great for fat loss

Protein intake will build muscle mass which weighs more than fat and will add weight to your body as you slim cut fat. So, although healthy along with cutting carbs sodium etc, it does not help you cut overall weight alone which was the question. There are always other factors in each persons situation, such as metabolism, training environment etc. I just wanted to hightlight the fact that weight lifting does not directly affect boxing development or cutting weight in a positive way, unless done specifically for those conditioning goals... which is not the way most who would ask such a question probably lift weights.
