As a judge scoring the ams at the local level (no computer scoring system, old school 20 point must.) I made sure to reward proper body work, every time that I saw it score. A jab to the belly counts the same as a right hand smashing your nose flat.

In the local level I will say that Detroit judges reward proper body work in the amateurs.

With the new scoring system 3 of 5 judges must push the buttons to score a body shot. On the inside as well as the outside it is hard for judges to scores the clean body work.

That's why this system is producing pitty pat, gtfo type of fighters. Hit and run. Infighting might not be appreciated by the 3 of 5 system only because of obstructed view.

Even so, work that body every chance that you get. You think that "it's only 3 rounds....." LMAO, talk to me again when your first 4 minute - 30 second bout is over. Back in the olden days open fighters all fought three minute rounds. At the time that could be the longest time. But when we persist we grow. I even had a 5 round 2 minute per round bout.

Be that new kid in his first bout working the body over like a pro, of course don't forget to bring 'em up top too, people will notice you and remember you. Take his wind and own his soul...........

maybe im underestimating the intensity of a bout then...
is amateur very different from hard sparring/high intensity sparring sessions@@?
i find it quite endurable as long as i keep myself calm...

only one way to find out. when it goes down BE CERTAIN that you worked hard for that win that awaits you. The rest just falls into place once the bell rings, then just do as you do..

dont be afraid to land body shots on amateurs fights, it works!
even in few rounds, you will affect in some way, and you can push the pace of the bout.

it doesn't work in the paint brush amateur system of 3-5 basically anything that lands coming from the white part of your opponents glove scores. To much time is lost in lowering one's hands and knee's when hitting the body. the other factor is that in the amateurs most ppl box with their weight on their back leg this makes very hard to body shot since most boxers who go to the body put their weight on the lead leg.
