Would Weightlifting be okay to do in this case?

I haven't boxed in 2 years and haven't really done anything physical either in that time frame either, aside from construction work. The construction was good because it kept me from getting worse, but I still have gotten very out of shape and weak.

I started getting back into boxing very recently. I know weightlifting is for the most part frowned upon and I understand why. But would it be ok if I started weightlifting after boxing & roadwork just to get some of my strength back?

I have zero intentions of putting on a lot of mass or getting huge or any of that bull****, I just want to get back to my former shape or at least close to it and then ditch the weights and stick to boxing.

If you aren't looking to gain muscle quick then Calisthenics are going to be better because they help with building endurance strength. Weights in my experience build strength that lasts for a little bit then once you are tired it goes away. Tough thing about Calisthenics is you have to increase the reps/sets you do or you won't progress and that can be very monotonous.

Yeah they are definitely going to be a part of training no matter what. I was actually doing pistol squats before my training came to a halt. Calisthenics are great.

Only thing is I find that I make gains in strength faster using weights. I just want to get back to what I was (or at least close to it) as soon as possible. Once I've accomplished that (shouldn't be more than a few months), I'm putting it down and if I lose a little bit of muscle or strength I'm perfectly fine with it haha

Weights will only help you maintain better balance and overall enhance performance with proper training....anyone who says otherwise has never been in a gym and actually lifted weights before these types are usually the ones to give advice not to lift weights because they have no experience with them ....I have boxed for a bit and lifted weights a long time, they will make you a better fighter than not doing some sort of weight training, because it will strengthen your core and building muscle or strengthening it will increase one owns ability.......

body weight excersices is really counterproductive if you are boxing.( not including pull ups ).....ditching weights is being lazy. The vid below shows a great body exercise guy vs a weight lifter in both endurance and strength competition...one of many you will find.

That competition seemed heavily slanted towards weight lifting events.

did you miss the gymnastic match or pull ups which require endurance...the weight lifter never even did such events that is to the other guys advantage? The even tis to see who is stronger a weight lifter or guy who doesn't do weights for the most part.My personal experience is body exercise guys are not as durable as conditioned weight lifters.they are also doing numerous sets not maximum weight which also requires more endurance not strength.

I used to be a stage hand in N.y and worked side by side withanother built guy who didn't do weights and he did body excercises and was weaker by a far margin ...same weight and size as me...he had no balance either lifing heavy scenery or props around. He was also a subscriber of body weight excercises over free weights.

It stands to reason that weight lifters will have an advantage when there are so many weight lifting events.

A more interesting competition would be to match them up on a Ninja Warrior course. Or even to have them go several rounds in a boxing match.

It's entirely up to you. Whatever you see most success with go for it.

That would have little to do with enhancing a boxers performance ,we are not testing who would win a fight trainer A or B ...the fighter himself is what we are discussing . I know at the end of the day weight training helps in any sport barring pin pong

Ninja warrior has all types of competitors which requires more flexibility than anything to get through half of it .

Ninja Warrior tests athleticism, strength, and endurance.

That would be more relevant to a boxer overall than a competition that one-sidedly emphasizes lifting weight.
