    Handwraps needed for mitt work?

Just wanted to check whether or not I should be using any form of handwraps for relatively light pad-based mitt work during gym sessions. Does it depend on how hard I'm hitting the pads, or can I just skip any wraps and put the mitts straight on? Today was my 2nd attempt, and so far I haven't used any wraps.

Total beginner here, and at the moment I've started off with 4 rounds of 2 minutes each. Bear in mind the mitt work is only to supplement normal gym sessions that I do before in the afternoon on weekends. I have no intention on going into boxing.

    Any help much appreciated. :smile1:

It's up to you. if it's light it might be worth not wearing them and toughen up your hands and knuckles a bit. If you were going all out though I would wear them.
It's just a personal thing i think. Depends on what your hands can take.

I'm assuming you're wearing gloves right?

          Always wrap your hands Pitty...

Whether you're hitting the speedbag, heavy bag or mitts. You need to protect your hands and stabilize your wrists.

            Just normal light mitts, Poon.

Looking back on the two pad sessions I've done, I kinda feel as though it would be a good idea to wrap up those hands. My thumb kept getting crumpled up each time I hit a pad (I kept it tucked in, but somehow it always ended up flying out when I threw), and I could definitely feel the compression in my wrists the harder I tried to hit. Then again, neither me nor my gym trainer know anything about wrapping (he just holds the pads for me and that's all).

But like I said, it's not something I'm seriously getting into at this point. It's just a sort of burning-off thing I've done with the guy at the end of a normal workout. Bit of fun, y'know? Obviously if they had a heavy bag somewhere I'd be looking at using proper bag gloves and good wraps. Plus, being the klutz that I am, I ended up hyperextending my arm from missing a pad on a big swing. :laff2:

If its just something you do casually then I guess you don't NEED them, but as a general rule I always wrap my hands.

Always wrap your hands. You don't want the bones in your hand sliding around full stop.

I'd say wear them. Keeps them from slipping off from all the sweat, your bone sliding to places it shouldn't be and helps if your training partner hits really fking hard (Which they shouldn't)
