I am not sure if you mean Aileen Eaton, but if is so you jarred my memory, she is definitely an important promoter.
Sammons in Beyond the Ring offers her great praise, not only did she become an important promoter to the west coast fight game (via the Olympic Auditorium,) she also succeeded in limiting Frankie Carbo and Blinky Palermo's (IBC) 'influence' by refusing to cow to their demands.
Sammons' claims the local fight mangers called her the "Dragon Lady" for her tough negotiating skills.
Thanks for the post

And the best single man blow by blow announcer then outside of Don Dunphy was Jim Healy.
Jim is in the walk of fame.

I am just dying of suspense. Who was the best ever at putting up a guarantee? Anyone wearing a weasel suit and tacking up posters is a boxing promoter.

You do seem truly bothered that these men were/are part of the fight game. Are their names not to be mentioned because their ethics were wanting? Shall we chisel their names from the walls and take off heads from statues? They're still an important part of the history of the game and they warrant discussion.
Many important people in history were/are weasels.

You brought the subject up, now answer: Who is the best at putting up a guarantee? That is what you used as a defense that promoting used to be and why they did more important things than tack up posters. I am only using your words.
I say they are not worth glorifying. You say they are worth glorifying because many famous people have also been scumbags. Your very title proclaims at least some of them as great. Then you proceed to list a bunch of scumbags. Hmmm, these must be the great ones.
I use a blanket statement. Every promoter of boxing who ever has been, is, or will be, is a weasel scumbag. All anyone has to do is find one counterexample to prove me wrong. The problem is they can't.
* * * * *
Easy on promoters is exactly where I am not going.
Now you go polish Eddie Hearns's fireman's hat. I see them (promoters) gearing up for another big crooked move I predicted months ago. How wonderful it must be signing to fight Povetkin when there is a high probability he will test dirty right before the fight and you will be given permission to defend against a safe nonentity as a result.
Anyone who kept statistics on which articles boxing fans will any longer tolerate would see that people are losing interest in the sport. And it is because of the weasely antics of promoters and soup orgs. They only get away with it because of the ignorance of a fan base that will not demand better.
Every promoter is a sickening hog. Strain it through your sensibilities. None of them are great but some of them are effective or influential.

Best at putting up a 'guarantee' would be the casinos (corporations).
I thought I made it clear that I used the wrong word with 'great.' But I guess you chose not to notice that, and threw it back in my face anyway, OK.
What about the woman mentioned Alieen Eaton she had a reputation of being straight forward and honest?
That is an interesting ploy you suggest regarding Povetkin, I will have to watch for that.
I certainly wasn't expecting you to apologize; I replied to let you know I heard what you said, but don't necessarily agree, (and to break balls a bit.)
I believe Winston Churchill was a weasel, but we still need to recognize his effect on history; I feel the same way about Tex Rickard.
I just can't imagine how the game would have progressed if these 'scumbags' had not been involved.

Here's one for your side of the argument; first hand account.
I once paid to watch a kid in gym shorts and street sneakers throw himself to the canvas just as the opening bell rang. The opponent hadn't been able cross the ring yet, so couldn't have possibly hit the kid. The ref refused to count and just stood there looking down at the kid. The kid wouldn't get up. He wasn't counted out; he wasn't even DQ, (His seconds came in and pulled him to his feet; the kid was scared.) It was announced that NO Fight occurred. The kid didn't get paid. Or at least they announced the kid would't be paid. There was no announcement concerning a rebate on my ticket price. (Milander Convention Hall, Hialeah, FL circa 1989, Al Bannonie, Promoter).
You would have loved Al.

Boxing is about over. It is only interesting if the best fights are taking place regularly, which ain't happening anymore. Instead, a person is supposed to put up with Bob Arum and shell out some more money for a bout with the talent disparity of Horn/Crawford. Arum figured out a way to make people at home pay for a fight of that quality now. You do not need two good fighters in the ring together anymore when one will do. People should be willing to pay to see a super talent fight anyone, even a bum, old Arum figured out. And guess what--yeah, they fell for it. Next the great Bob Arum will test PPV shadow boxing on the public. Why not, they earned it?
