    Bag Video

All right so ive posted some bag videos before and im horrible. Essentially I cant make it to a gym so i record when ever i hit the bag play it back and watch my self to get better.

so heres a round i recorded from last week. looking for opinions advice but mainly just want to know if i'm on the right track kinda. so far from this video i see i need to pay more attention to keeping my right up twords the end of rounds.

You should keep your right hand out wide a bit further you are wide open for a left hook as you are now. And with your right hand further back you will be able to extend the punch further and get more power. As it is it has no power. You need to twist into that right hand. The jab it seems you flick it out when it would be best to aim for more power from the jab but don't flick it from your chin it looks lke a backhanded punch. The hooks were wild and you need to move your body with them and keep your hands up when going for a hook.

Not too bad tho but I would recommend joining a gym.

Just work on the jab for now. You're just flicking it, the jab should be a weapon too.

Work a few rounds where you just focus on the jab then start adding straights then hooks.

              Not too bad, IMO.

When you're at long attacking distance -- at the edge of your range -- you take a different guard than you use in close. And in that long attacking guard you are keeping your left out too far and then pulling it back to "chamber" it before you throw it. That's a very common rookie mistake. You can fix it by shadowboxing, with your gloves, in a mirror. (With bare hands, the way most people shadowbox, telegraphing is not as obvious as it is with gloves on.) Easy fix.

When you're inside and throwing hooks to the body, move with the bag more and pivot whichever way you need to so that the punch lands with some power. If you're going to use a light bag that moves that much, you should be moving as it moves. Sometimes you do this, sometimes you don't. If you're going to infight, stay in there like a pitbull on a pant leg.

Your chin's down, which is good, but your right hand should be higher to protect against a left hook.

And when you feint, feint with authority. Ideally, even you shouldn't know whether it's a feint or a real punch until it's on its way. Want to make it a feint? Throw it for real, then change your mind before it lands. That's a fencer's trick but it translates very well to boxing.

It's a little odd that you throw your right cross the way a southpaw throws his left cross, right down the middle and snappy instead of a freight train. What fighters do you watch?

              Good stuff.

so just keep it alittle wider but i guess that means i have to practice flashing it in to block jabs. Next time i spar ill have to figure out if theres a good place thats inbetween still gurading the tip of my chin but also wide enough for left hooks.
                Thanks

                Thanks

so i should just keep my left closer to my face most the time unless im tying to beat the guy to the punch like if he were faster then me or had a greater reach?

move with the bag more? you mean like follow it foot work wise or do you mean just rotate my body with it more? also the bag is 110-120 lbs as im 205-208 what size bag would reccomend or should what i have be fine if i move around more?

Didnt try to feint at all as far as i remember i just dont think i knew what i was doing or something. The fencers tip is nice though thanks.

dont really watch much study wise, though i do enjoy dempsey, marciano, jeffries, and Bruce lee. for my right im just trying to remember to bring my right back to my face as quickly as possiable and i guess the way i do it is just the most comfortable for me.

I dont pivot on my right foot when i throw the straight right but i do come up alittle off my heel to start it off like an inch then right before i hit ill come up the last 2 or 3 inches as hard as i can. im guessing pivoting is done for the freight train punch or is that only for hooking?
                thanks again

                  1. Get a heavier bag;and no, wrapping a juniors bag in duct tape doesn't cut it.

                  2. If you've made up your mind that you're not going to ever bother going to a gym, you really shouldn't waste anymore time.

Nice polo shirt by the way. You know the look of a champion when he's wearing the finest threads from the mens department at k-mart.

its wrapped in duct tape because the sand comes out the seams when i hit it i mean it really is atleast 110...but ok how heavy do you think my bag should be 120? how heavy is your bag compared to your weight?

Im pretty sure the shirts not polo brand and i didnt get it at k mart if i got it any where it was at salvation army probably like 1 or 2 bucks, maybe even .50 cents.

Thanks for the advice but i plan to continue.
