But, then Jersey Joe Walcott held that distinction before that and I don't think anyone had rated him that high before George made history. Mike Tyson was the youngest but I really don't think anyone takes that into account when rating him. I'd say it was amazingly impressive what he had accomplished but then there were other champions who had done alternatively impressive things. Rocky Marciano retired at 49-0 and defeated every relevant opponent of his era. Ali had beaten every top rated fighter of his era and captured the title three times which was incredible. Lewis did the same beating everyone he'd ever faced as a pro. Homes and Louis had 20+ title defenses. Tyson had phenomenal skills, speed and power and captured 5 title belts in his career defending them for a total of almost four years or so. Holyfield was the Undisputed Cruiserweight champ and was a four-time heavyweight champ. It goes on and on.

George has great credentials but I don't think they were superior to some of the others. However, i'm sure he'd be in my top-ten. I've really gotta think about it!
George was a terror in the ring,... one of the most feared in history..... But there is no way that a case can be made for him at #1...... What about the fact that Ali STOPPED him ???? He wasn't even the top HW of his time,.... ABSOLUTELY THE END OF STORY !!!!!!!

if you're talking about a barfight i can't think of a better candidate in history

but he's not the greatest HW ever

joe louis and muhammad ali are basically a lock for that distinction

i rarely see anybody worth a damn claiming otherwise.
and really, what argument is there to make?

the tape speaks for itself, really. joe louis might be the best fighter i've ever seen. a similar argument can be made about pre layoff ali/clay.
      they were that fuccking good.
(for the record i rank louis behind only robinson. my top ten is forthcoming for you fine lads. shred away i aint scared ^^ )

but also the CV's are far superior. i don't want to list the fighters that ali fought, but i will.

and joe louis and ali, in their own ways, were each heros and iconic figures to a much greater degree than george foreman (who did represent older people, and certainly crossed over beyond boxing in his own right)

you really think george foreman is a greater fighter than joe louis?
      or muhammad ali?

if you want to go ahead rank him third behind those two go right ahead
but otherwise i'll look at you a bit funky ^^

it just doesn't sit right with me
the greatest HW of all time "George Foreman"

Gentlemen, against the better compitition George fought he beat Moorer, Lyle, and Frazier 2X. He lost to Holyfield, Young, and Ali. He also lost to Briggs and badly to Morrison. Remember the Moorer fight was a lucky punch nothing more. With a record of 5-3 against the upper class fighters and 2 losses to second tier (at best) hwts, not only is he not the GOAT hwt, not even top 10 in my book.

He also beat Norton in his prime which is better than beating Lyle. Also, the fights in his 40's shouldn't be held against him. What other heavyweight in history won a championship in their 40's after a 10 year lay off? I also don't know anybody who thinks Briggs won that fight.

In boxing there is no such thing as a lucky punch. Boxing is the punch business. If your intent is to throw and land it, it ain't lucky. No more than a home run, three point shot, or a touchdown.
