Foreman and Liston are the two guys I see hurting Marciano the most. With their size, strength, reach and power, I just can't see Marciano winning with his short arms and forever plodding forward style.

Liston's jab would bust Marciano's face up really bad early, leading to a mid-rounds stoppage.

if marciano was faster he would have a chance, so he could get on the inside and get his punches off and dart away. But even then liston had a great uppercut and could still get to him. This is just a bad style matchup for marciano, who would get blasted out of there ala foreman/frazier

Marciano. His inhuman strength and endurance would be too much for the coward Liston to bear. Rocky would "Suzie-Q" him into oblivion.

Liston himself said of Marciano, "This was one of the greatest champions ever. He refused to accept defeat. And nobody ever beat him."

The Sonny Liston who beat Patterson and the Sonny Liston AFTER he lost twice to Ali were two different fighters.

The Liston who was hungry and demolished guys on his way to Patterson had a lot of fight in him. The Liston who "lost" the second Ali fight and beyond seemed to have lost much of his "kill". Sonny Liston is one of my 5 favorite heavyweights of all time, but he was never the same after the second Ali fight. It's like his heart was gone cause he knew he'd never get another title shot. So, he went thru the motions and made some paydays.

The pre-Ali Liston would be my betting favorite over the Rock. The Liston who fought on after Lewiston...I think the Rock would either W15 or very late TKO. Liston had whiskers that could stand up to Cleveland Williams' bombs, so his chin was good. Lewiston aside....

Good post. Just to add that Liston is a horrible style match-up for Marciano. I can't see any 185lber beating Sonny by coming forward and trading with him. Both had very solid chins, although curiously both were dropped by light-heavies, but Marciano never showed he could take the punches of a Cleveland Williams-esque puncher and had tough scraps against his best competition, all smallish heavies. Liston also has substantial weight and reach advantages, and imo is a harder puncher, so all I can see is an early KO for Liston. It should be entertaining while it lasts though.

Liston would use that tremendous jab of his to bust up Marciano's face and keep him at bay. Liston had the toughness and size to survive Marciano's onslaughts.

Jesus, Rocky Marciano takes more of a beating in these fantasy matchups than he ever took in the ring.

If feather fisted Ali could knock Liston the **** out - TWICE - what do you think the Rock would do to him???
