    It is a statistic that has been repeated by every major news outlet in the world going all the way back to that beautiful autumn of 1974. 1 billion live viewers. It's an absolutely astonishing statistic that you can, yourselves verify anywhere. With 50 year old connectivity and technology. It still astounds.

    48 long years ago it took place, this at around 4A.M local time (10 PM New York time). It was of course the epic, never to be forgotten “Rumble in the Jungle” between heavyweight superstars Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. The fight, staged in the unlikeliest of settings, this deep in the heart of Africa, in Zaire, was watched by a TV audience of 1 billion people, this a quarter of the planet’s​

    Today, it would still be over 25% of the Earth's population. A staggering number that will surely never be repeated again.

      - - The lead up to that delayed fight because of a su****iously deliberate cut to Foreman causing a month delay is worth a movie of it's own starring Mugabe as a mass slaughterer of his people taking place in the prison over which the fight was held.
