He made the rumble in the jungle? He promoted black fighters and got many black fighters rich.
Can anyone put in any case for his defence??

As much as snake that King is, he has put some of the greatest and most historical cards in history on. He's no different than any other promoter, he was just willing to go further and get dirtier than most. From a moral standpoint it's difficult to defend him. From a boxing perspective it's not. Jmo.

i agree. i don't know what went on with him and iron mike but he claims he made mike rich but in my opinion mike has such a personality and star power he can make himself rich whenever he wants to.
but king sure put on some Saturday nights over the years.

Mike was already the richest fighter of all-time before he signed with Don King.

HE put together some of the greatest cards of all-time.

That's the ONLY good thing I will say about him.

He was a piece of crap in virtually every way.

Not only he robbed Ali - he sent him to get beaten up and ultimately crippled forever by Holmes while well aware that there were abnormalities in his brain scans.

              For context:

Don King completely ruined Tyson, simple as that.

Well, he IS different - he killed (at least) a man. Perhaps the only comparison for this "quality" is with Frankie Carbo and Blinky Palermo.

I've said before I don't understand why I am meant to hate him. I'd much rather someone lie to Floyd and PPVs be 99 cents than tell that fool anything near truth while charging me 99 dollars.

I'd go as far as to say the fall of American hegemony in boxing is largely due to the lack of King. Arum was the major before him, Arum didn't really do anything for boxing's profile his entire career. King showed up, made boxing the biggest sport in the world, then got squeezed out by Arum and co and we're back to the lack luster Arum show.

They blame the NBA like it's their fault their promoters promote. I've never seen ANY arum ads invade my TV. Hmmm. Mike used to be on TV every GD day. Hmm.
