Of course. I wouldn't make a statement like that it I haven't. I actually learned about jack Dempsey-Gene Tunney around winter time in my american studies class because we were going over 1920's, and one of our sections was sports. That night I watched anything I could find on them and their fights on youtube. Poor quality though.
Ali is the greatest Heavyweight of all time. Tunney wouldn't have been able to out box him. Dempsey had serious power but had that long layoff and hollywood lifestyle. Ali had a great chin and fought some pretty good punchers. He would of outboxed him like Tunney did even before the layoff.
I might be a younger boxing fan but I always try to pick up new knowledge everyday. I make sure I watch fights before I run my mouth unlike half the other new trolls from NSB that probably have never even seen Manny or Floyd fight.
Like said in numerous posts in this thread, that writers an ignorant bias. That ignorant as hell too say the greatest heavyweight of all time & Frazier aren't even on the same level as those guys just because they fought in the 20's.

so you watched them fighters on `youtube` a grainy old B&W film clip on cold flat-screen, whereas Fleischer watched them all live` from ringside... yet you call the guy "A Joke"?
Nat Fleischer said "Ray Robinson was the greatest of all times" as did Bud Shulberg, Ray Arcel & Ernest Hemingway, they all claim Jack Dempsey was the greatest heavyweight of all time including Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano & Cassius Clay.. they make that claim because they all seen Dempsey fight.... yet you who have watched a clip of him on `youtube` say they are a bunch of jokers?
"This'll be much bigger but Frazier and Ali just ain't in the same class with those guys," said Fleischer. "Not even close."
Exactly what I'm referencing, how does that contradict what I said - by "those two guys" he could mean when they matched up, not as fighters, therefore speaking about the event (I'm not saying he didn't rank them higher as well, just that that isn't the issue at hand here). He also makes numerous other statements supporting my claim, such as noting attendance and gate figures.

If you can say Muhammad Ali & Fraizer aren't on the same level as any certain fighter unless your talking about the greatest Sugar Ray Robinson, then yeah that's a joke.
I never said Jack Demsey or Tunney were jokes, I just don't think they can beat Ali or Fraizer. Dempsey had punching power, big whoop, you need more then that to beat ali. Sorry to hurt your feelings. I love how your trying to single me out because im a newer boxing fan but didn't say anything else to anybody else in this thread who could care less about this guys opinion.
The guy was obviously bias. I agree about Sugar Ray being the greatest but with an obvious bias you can't take this guys opinion too seriously.
Tunney would destroy ali at his own game and he would actually keep his guard up while doing it. Frazier.....frazier wouldnt be a problem for tunney if dempsey was only barely a problem frazier would not be a problem.
Dempsey vs ali? dempsey of course. theres no way ali's chin is rolling with dempseys punches they were much too fast (top speed wise) same reason Louis beats ali especially if he keeps his hands at his waist for the whole match in a feeble attempt to help him roll the punches.
and Dempsey would teach frazier what it means to be a pressure fighter.

He says that Frazier-Ali will be the biggest fight in history but that the two fighters aren't in the same class as Tunney and Dempsey and that he doesn't rate either Ali or Frazier in his top 10. I think it's fairly clear what he means.
The attendance and gate figures were noted by the writer of the article who wrote that it's the closest boxing has got to such an event, not Fleischer, who says Ali-Frazier will be bigger. He just doesn't think much of the fighters involved.
These are the two statements made by Fleischer:
"I wouldn't even rate Clay among the top all-time 10 heavyweights. He doesn't have all the assets of ring greatness yet. Frazier neither. But, regardless of all that, it's going to be the biggest fight in the history of boxing because of money and promotion."
The writer then goes onto state the figures of Dempsey-Tunney.
"This'll be much bigger but Frazier and Ali just ain't in the same class with those guys," said Fleischer. "Not even close."

Ali handled Liston's power so I don't see why he couldn't handle Dempsey's. I doubt Tunney beats Ali at his own game but that's your opinion. Agree to disagree.
