    Showboaters from the past?

I was watching Leonard-Hearns for the n-th time or so, and as usually I was thinking that it would have been wonderful if Ray was the same fighter, minus his "bolo-feint". I am always pissed off by showboating. Just my taste.

Anyways, watching the fight brought me to think about showboating.

Would you count the Walcott shuffle at showboating?

Who are the first guys to showboat? My immediate thought was Locche, but there must be others before him, which I don't know or just can't think of off the top of my head. I guess Pep did it too.

Anyone from the pre-15 round times?

Max Baer would sometimes spend more time showboating than fighting.

    Jack Johnson.

Jack Johnson is the first name that comes to mind, used to always show off and even have a conversation with people in the crowd in his fights.

Great A - thankyou for a great video.. what is noticable from many of those clips is how Jack Johnson would have no-trouble whatsoever taking care of Vitali Klitschko.. watch how Johnson jabs Ketchel and nearly takes his head off, how he rough-houses Jeffries inside and beats him to a bloody pulp, watch his incredible footwork as well as blocking & parrying punches, then watch his savage attacking skills to finnish off his opponents... then think about Vitali with his feet nailed to the canvas, his limited skills, his pawing jab and his inability to finish off opponents... Johnson would murder him within 6rds

Even at age 67 Johnson has better footwork then Vitali

NChristo your right buddy...many young members today think of Johnson, Dempsey, Tunney etc as a bunch of "Fighting-Spastics" who did not know how to train or fight, yet take a look at the arms, Shoulders on Johnson.. i have never seen a fighter with a physique like his and there was no steroids or PEDs back in those days, his physique was built from years of hard work, he must have been as strong as a bull... if a defensive fighter like Chris Byrd can cause Vitali huge problems just think what a guy like Jack Johnson would do... Nat Fleischer said Johnson was the greatest in all Fistiana, and today he is called "an old Fool" it is my opinion that Fleisher was 100% correct

Always thought that Johnson was 20-30 years ahead of his time.
Any reason he wouldn't be ahead of his time in today's era?

Muhammad Ali was a great show off that many fighters later tried to imitate.

if Johnson was fighting today he would be undisputed champion
