I look at Ricardo "Finto" Lopez (My favorite boxer), I look at his record and I see alot of good fighters who never recovered after he brutally dominated/or knocked them out. A good example of this is Zolani Petelo who despite a 17-2-2 record won the IBF minumweight title from Ratanapol Sor Vorapin who was making his 19th defence of the belt in just his 14th fight. Petelo went on to defend the belt 5 times before being stripped and moving up to fight Lopez at 108. Despite a brave effort, He was knocked out in the 8th round.
After losing to Ricardo. He took a huge layoff and lost his next (and last) bouts to 2 opponents with a combined record of 39 wins and 20 losses. Just to name a couple more, Singprasert Kittikasem, Ala Villamor and Kwang-Soo Oh never fought against after being dominated by Lopez.
Please post some more fighters who you feel were never the same after being knocked out. Another one that comes straight to mind is Acelino "Popo" Freitas. The loss to Corrales took away his pride and motivation. When he was coming up he was raised in poverty and was fighting for his country and all of his fans. But after a few big wins he had alot of money and the hunger seemed to dissappear. Corrales took away something from him in that fight and he never regained it. Which is a shame, because I thought he was great to watch. His career is proberbly over now.
Some others I can think of....
Felix Trinidad after being KO'd by Hopkins. He did have a good showing against Mayorga but this fight was the end for him. As a top fighter.
Roy Jones Jr hasnt looked half the fighter he was in the 90's since his knockout loss to Antonio Tarver. He's had some good performences. But against the likes of Jeff Lacy it doesnt really prove much.
Cristian Mijares was ranked in the Top 10 P4P before he was brutally knocked out by Vic Darchinyan. If you watch him before that fight, he looked amazing. Particuarly in his fight with Jorge Arce. I still think he's capable of doing well but he'll never be as good as he was before. He's not the same anymore. Although he is taking the right steps to get back to the top. I think in the next year he could become champion again. But that's only because Donaire and Darchinyan have moved up to 118.
