Chris Byrd: he deserves a shot at Lennox Lewis

Looking at the resume of the all-time heavyweight great Lennox Lewis, a boxing fan cant ask for more for this hall of famer, Lewis fought every HW in his era, forget big daddy Rid**** Bowe.

But who could possibly say or name a boxer Lewis purposely ducked or didnt fought in his time, one Heavyweight boxer that stands out for me is none other than the IBF Heavyweight champion Chris Byrd, who reign from 2002-2006.

Taking all the accounts that transpired, Lewis lost all the desire to continue fighting after his signature win over Tyson in 2002, he gave up the IBF belt so as not to fight Byrd, It took him one year to get into the ring again and was out of shape vs Vitali Klitschko, then retired.

Why was Byrd deserving to fight Lewis? he fought both Klitschkos despite the terrible, huge disadvantages in height and reach, he beat David Tua, and lost to fellow prospect Ike Ibeabuchi, that alone makes a case, a Lewis-Wladimir Klitschko fight needs more build up that time and Wlad was shockingly upset by Corrie Sanders.

And if Lewis could gave Kirk Johnson ( loss by DQ to John Ruiz and was the original Lewis opponent in June 2003) a title shot, why not Byrd? during Lewis 2nd reign from 1997-onwards, he was nothing short of spectacular in his victories, pitted against Byrd, Lewis should win but we could possibly see a repeat of a Ray Mercer fight. with Byrd making Lewis looked bad in the ring, compare to the Klitschkos, Byrd would find some success vs Lewis, Chris was then considered a Heavyweight version of a Pernell Whitaker.

If we're being honest, the main reason Lewis didn't fight Ruiz or Byrd is because they were both with Don King. And Lennox HATED Don King and only worked with him when there was big money (Tyson, Holyfield) involved.

bit of a feeble excuse, the truth is that Lewis is just as guilty of ducking his No1 contenders as Rid**** Bowe was of ducking him.. Lewis would have been favored to beat both Ruiz & Byrd just like Bowe was favored to beat Lewis back in 1993

Lewis would have been a much heavier favorite over Byrd and Ruiz than Bowe would have been over him. Not even close really.

completely immaterial, what you are saying is that Byrd & Ruiz should have hung their gloves up and retired from the sport because when they both fought their way to the top (No1 contender) they was unworthy of getting a title fight because Scott9945 heavily favored Lennox Lewis to beat them which is laughable.. it is obvious that Lewis never fancied his chances against them otherwise he would have fought them, also Byrd beat David Tua & Evander Holyfield far easier than Lewis beat them... you need to accept that Lewis was just as guilty as Rid**** Bowe was in 1993 instead of the double-standards you have in every debate about Lewis because if you justify the actions of Lewis then you must also justify the actions of Bowe.

I was simply responding to a comment that Lewis would have been a big underdog to Bowe in 1993. Apparently that caused you to go on yet another anti Lewis rant.

And the Byrd-Tua fight was considerably closer than Lewis-Tua. Feel free to check the scores. I saw both fights live. But you never do let facts get in your way.

There is a difference between being the Universal number one contender and have a store bought rating. The only bottom line is that Lewis Ruddock, Holy and Bowe staged a mini tournament with the winners agreeing to face each other. Bowe than low balled Lewis (documented already) and dumped his WBC title so the fight couldn't be forced. These are all facts.
