lol i think he'd have trouble at middleweight.
he would have probably chased paychecks at HW

i remember hearing rumors that he would hit way over 165 for a WW fight, and i believe hbo had him on an unofficial scale before a ww fight at 164, but i cant remember for the life of me which fight it was

armstrong would literally have a field day. williams was/is tall but if you gave him anything whatsoever he would give up his height and throw punches. did i mention giving up his height? lol

looking back on williams fights i cant help but notice the amount of unnecessary punishment he took. he couldn't make a defensive adjustment to save his life (other than turn up the heat )

all of these guys landed everything from good shots to bombs on williams:
      phillips
      mitchell
      lara
quintana in their first fight (if carlos quintana can get under williams stuff and land, will armstrong have any issues?)
      wright (completely spent)
      cintron
      margarito

      and of course martinez.

these guys landed all sorts of stuff on williams chin
and wright, margarito, quintana (first fight,) martinez, citron (four rounds, then he flew out of the ring,) lara, were all able to take his punches.

williams wasn't really a huge puncher, especially at WW
is he going to stop armstrong?
win a decision being so easy to hit?

i think paul wouldn't have much of a chance at all
but it would be a hell of a fight, if that makes any sense at all

it wouldnt be good for williams health if it went 15 rounds either.
      real talk.
Quintana is a slick southpaw and created those openings by using brilliant foot movement. With all due respect, to even compare that to Armstrong as if he could do the same thing is totally off. Armstrong is a Joe Frazier type pressure fighter, he'll be coming directly at Williams (trying to slip punches) and people can say what they want about his questionable defense, he has never lost a fight of pure volume, not even to Margarito and that's his bread and butter.

a fair assessment certainly, and everybody is welcomed to his take. to be fair to armstrong and the brilliant footwork of carlos quintana, mimicking his performance really isn't what i had in mind.

quintana boxed the fight of his life, and credit to him.

we cant forget the level of craft armstrong possessed in terms of his ability to get past offense. and he would likely have had the stamina to slip williams punches all night and continue to come forward with with his chin taking care of the stuff that connected.

if williams were able to walk into the ring at 160 +, as he was known to do as a WW, he would pose a rough task with all that reach. but i'm not of the opinion that it would be too much

for the bold part: brother, you're talking about antonio margarito and henry armstrong

i think we can agree armstrong knows a little something about it!

It has less to do with Armstrong's stamina and more to do with the style match up. Even when he would land (which he would on a few occasions), Armstrong's power wasn't that impressive in the upper weights and Williams didn't flinch against the power of even natural welterweights. It seems like you are suggesting Armstrong actually walking Williams down, which is unrealistic IMO. I just can't see it.

I'd take the Margarito that fought Williams over Armstrong. Call me insane but i actually think hes underrated. He was at his best around the time he fought Antonio Diaz, that was a volume punching master piece. Armstrong was at his best in the lower divisions (and i have him quite high on my atg list) but against these abnormal type welterweights that can actually match his inside game on top of already having blatant advantages in size and reach, his chances are limited IMO. He just has too much to overcome.

he wasn't a one punch puncher but he had an incredible amount of knockouts at ww and everywhere else.
he has more knockouts in WW world title fights than any man ever i believe.
i'd have to hit the boxrec to verify but i'm very confident it's true.

            he knocked everybody out.
you don't need one punch power like tommy hearns to knock guys out.

            he could really ****
