    Eubank vs Watson 2 - 11th Round

    It was a tragic round. But what interests me in this fight is how it differs from others fight where fighters have suffered a brain hemorrhage. Typically, a fighter sustain ongoing punishment when a brain injury results. In Watson's case, he appear perfectly fine 10 seconds before the end of the round. It is obvious whatever damage was done was done in the last 10 second of round 11.

    What do you think it was that caused the injury to Watson in this case: the uppercut, Watson fall against the ropes, or a combination of the two?

    The ref in this fight has a lot to answer for. Watson could barely walk out for the last round the ref had to aid him. It was a disgrace.

    From a boxing pov that uppercut still remains one of the best single punches I've ever seen.

      It wouldn't surprise me if the brain injury was inflicted earlier on in the round. Watson seemed so solid up to that round.....and for the first time he seemed to struggle when Eubank was catching him on the ropes.

      I can understand why anyone might believe that the uppercut caused the damage......it may well have done.

      But as for a boxer showing signs of brain damage, everyone really is different. A clot/hemorrhage can show up anywhere at varying degrees of severity......different symptons can follow at different times post injury. Gerald McClellan was blinking for several rounds for example, Spencer Oliver seemed in a daze the entire fight. Watson seemed to deteriorate in the minute between rounds. The poor Russian last week seemed a bit sluggish in the last round then came to pieces after a fairly innocuous shot.....one would presume the damage was done in the previous round.

        There was an awesome right hand Eubank stepped in with earlier in the round - untelegraphed, compact, measured, flush and full weight behind. A sneaky, short, beautiful punch in the thick of the action.
