Records are made and kept to be broken! Joe had good instincts and a great cornerman who had alot of experience and paid attention to Joe and their opponent. He could cut the ring off using laterial movement and double and triple jab with good reaching steps and hands. He had very good upper body movement and good head movement and punched off of those moves. He wasn't a fluid mover like Ali but he had the talent to intercept Ali and make Ali move right which Ali had no problem doing but moving right against Louis was not a good idea. Joe was more than capable of hooking off his jab and he punched in combination, with hard punches.
I'm an Ali fan and a Louis fan and I used to stuggle breaking down a dream bout with them. When in doubt I will always lean toward the power and although Ali was alot stronger than alot of people thought he was he was no match to Louis as far as power. Joe hit HARDDDDDD!!!!!!! Much harder than anyone in the latter years and that includes Shavers and Tyson and Liston. I held pads for Shavers and Tyson so I know exactly what they're all about. Liston didn't throw the technical shots that Joe did, he had his elbow tight and had the hip into his hook and his right cross (a forgotten punch today) was the best all time. Even better than Sugarmans!! I like Joe most of the time against Ali but I know Ali can out point anyone at almost anytime. How great would it be to see those guys fight twice a year for .........10 years?
