    I am ignorant.

But I want to learn. The great Ricardo Lopez:

    His best wins
    His best performances
    His best fights

General observations and useless trivia are also essential.

    Best win and best performance

Saman Sorjoturong would 2 years after this fight go on to KO ATG Humberto Gonzalez

Lopez was something special. I am a student of the sport, from a technical aspect, and I heard about him for years before I saw him. He was so technically correct, and, if you are an aspiring boxer, you could see how he thought in the ring, if you know how to look for such things.
recently there were posts on here saying that he was not a great counter puncher, but that is just wrong. If you think that that means staying in and countering every punch, then no, he was not. But he was a master at mahkng a guy throw a particular punch at a particular time and countering it. Watch the Sonjaturong fight- these names are hard to spell and I'm not going to boxrec to look them up- and the guy he fought whose name started with a V. In the latter case, he set that last punch up 3 or 4 rounds before he c ame back with it.
He stayed out of range, moved in, punched with great force with either hand, destroyed southpaws before they were common...A real smart fighter, real good at every thing. he fought who he fought and maybe he couldn't have beaten everybody (though, in my lifetime, he'd have done pretty good up to 118) he always would have been smarter than just about anyone he fought.

What did Alverez accomplish that is greater than a KO win over Humberto Gonzalez? Not to mention Saman proved it wasn't a fluke he defended his belt 10x.

I always thought it was Saman and Cruz that were his best but Alvarez was up there.

Gee lets see....he took Lopez to a draw while your boy was stopped in 2. For Lopez to come back from that adversity is far greater than an easy knock out.

not his best win but one of my favorites of him is when he fought Alex Sanchez and Unified the WBO and WBC titles.

                    In my opinion...

                    His best wins :

                    1. Rosendo Alvarez 2
                    2. Saman Sorjaturong
                    3. Zolani Petelo
                    4. Alex Sanchez
                    5. Hideyuki Ohashi

                    His best performances :

                    1. Alex Sanchez
                    2. Ala Villamor
                    3. Saman Sorjaturong
                    4. Zolani Petelo
                    5. Javier Varguez

                    His best fights

                    1. Rosendo Alvarez 2
                    2. Rosendo Alvarez 1
                    3. Zolani Petelo
                    4. Kermin Guardia
                    5. Will Grigsby

If I was to recommend you 5 fights to watch in order they would be...

                    1. Ala Villamor
                    2. Alex Sanchez
                    3. Rosendo Alvarez 1
                    4. Rosendo Alvarez 2
                    5. Zolani Petelo

Of all of his opponents, Saman Sorjaturong probably had the best career outside of Rosendo Alvarez but that fight really doesn't tell you much about Lopez where as the others do. With him being an aggressive brawling type boxer I think Lopez would've stopped Saman at any point in their careers but he was really green when they fought and just wasn't ready at all. I think he had only beaten one guy with a winning record at that point and Lopez just destroyed him. It's still a very good win but I think the others will educate you more on his skills. The guys I listed above were all peaking world class fighters when Lopez beat them.
