Heavy handed with a huge fighting heart. A classic overachiever and one of the biggest middleweight champions ever. And if you score the fight without sentiment, he probably deserved the decision over Duran.

Always entertaining and seemingly a good guy. He had a career full of ups and downs but looking at the ups, he had a pretty good career.

sorry scott do not agree with you on the fight of the year the knock down and bruise's on barkly face showed who won the fight. It was a close fight with give and take and that's why it was fight of the year.

Great fight, it was seriously close but i felt the Duran Knock down won him the fight.
Agreed those are Barkley's standout features and how i view him, a Massive guy at the weight with serious punching power and one gigantic heart. An over achiever too

Same could be said about the decision in Barkley's next fight when he challenged Michael Nunn. Barkley redeemed himself and amazingly it ended up making Durans performance seem even better.

And oddly duran could not get to leonard in the cold desert evening when they fought.
One memory of a few on Barkly's power is when hit contender Mike Olajide so hard that micheal broke his ankle.

I thought barkley was a 3 belt champ. didn't he take the lightheavy belt from hearns that hearns got from virgil hill? overall barkley was a big king kong ass style pound your head in sledgehammer swingin mf. he only had one way n it was to pound u silly. of course more skilled cats with good legs gave him more trouble but u couldn't ax for more entertainment in a fighter

Yeah, he's a 3 division titlist. MW, SMW and LHW. Was among very rarified company at the time as one of the few three division title holders.

Either way, amazing fighter and one of the great action fighters of all time, up there with Gatti, Chacon, Saad etc.

At his best, he was much better than a lot of people give him credit for, but man, did he have some wild up and downs through a career.
