...a lot of people do not appreciate foreign fighters. And I thought about that again today because I read another comment about Kostya Tszyu. Some dude said in a thread with the topic whether Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank are "Hall of Fame"-worthy that - I quote:
And the thing is this: I have read that many times over the last years on boxing sites: that people say Tszyu was a nobody and he beat nobody and so on. I even remember reading that people were discussing 2 years ago (when Tszyu got inducted into the HOF) whether he was actually HOF worthy.
And that just showed me the lack of knowledge among boxing fans.
I mean, I witnessed Tszyu in his prime and I know who he was as a fighter. I know that he was the only or one of the only undisputed champions of a division when he ruled at 140. (Meaning during that time basically nobody had all titles unified except Tszyu in his division)
And then I see people over and over saying Tszyu is not HOF worthy or something similar. This is disgraceful. Tszyu is one of the best and most accomplished fighters I have ever seen in my lifetime. I just have that feeling that if he was american, people would take interest in his career and there would be no doubt if he belongs into the HOF. It makes me cringe to just think about the fact that somebody might question if Tszyu is a (deserving) Hall of Famer or not.
If Tysu and Gatti can get in I don't see why these guys (Benn&Eubank) can't
