I would say he does, we could make a very long list of good & even great fighters, that do not get the respect, the press or anything else they deserve, but for those of us that follow & study & know boxing, we give credit to them all & Ortiz is one on that long list.

no he doesn't. i rarely see him mention a top 5 best latino fighters ever when he probably should be. most of the time you'll see him rank near the end of a top ten or or not at all. as a lightweight, i think he gets his due.over shadowed perhaps by another great lightweight, duran.
I've always been curious about his fights with Duilio Loi. ortiz won the first by SD, with some saying it was very close, while loi won the other two in italy.

Great fighter who I doubt is nown as he should be! His loss to Loi were very cose and the first one many thought he won in Italy! Loi was a tremedous and legendary guy inside boxers will tell you so theres no big deal with dropping two out of three to him. I took a peak on boxrec because I remember Carlos fighting great matchups for every fight for years it seemed;
From 64 thru 67 he fought;
Laquna (twice)
Sugar Ramos
Flash Elorde
Bizzano
Lane
Loi
..............these guys were ALL fantastic top ten competitors of the era and their records show it! Carlos would be tops in any era!!! Ray.

CarLos Ortiz
I followed boxing very closely in the 60's and although Ortiz was a
fine champion none of his fights garnered much attention.
I don't recall many of his fights being on tv and yet I can remember
seeing Joe Brown many times. Could be that Carlos was not a big
crowd pleaser. Real craftsman but not a big puncher .

Started at St.Nicks so he was a NYC favorite for years. In the mid 50s that was the hub of boxing not just on the eastcoast but the World! St. Nicks took the place of the Gardens outdoor facility and if you could do well at St. Nicks the Garden was next! Carlos was a world traveler who fought the very best in his era! USA (Boston, Calif, Chicago, Vegas, Penn,) , Dominican Rep, Japan, Philli. Isles, Argentina, England the guy had a bag packed all the time!!!
As for the TV shows he could have made more money by the time TV was rolling on his own promotions. I don't remember who managed him but that could have alot to do with boxing on the old WPIX ( I think) out of NY sponsored by Gillette!! My guess is his management had other plans, they didn't make much more on TV and some made no difference at all! Ray
