Speaking or Resto-Collins, Assault in the Ring is a great documentary about that fight and how it changed the lives of both fighters and shows what a complete lowlife lying sack of crap Panama Lewis is and why he's not allowed to work the corner during fights anymore.
Yeah its pretty sick Panama still gets to train though and continue on with his life while Resto lives the like hell the rest of his. Panama should be in the same position.

Not to mention the scandal in the Pryor vs Arguello fight

No news for old-timers, I guess, but to pick the worst scandal in boxing history is worth a thought.

The Resto-Collins controversy still haunts me to this day. What were the members of Collins team responsible for watching Resto have his hands wrapped doing at the time? Did they not notice the thinness of the gloves then?

this could have been so easily avoided, it is a sad state of affairs which shows boxing at it's worse.

Don King, well what can I say that hasn't already been said? I've interviewed the man, I've stayed with him in Vegas, I'e even partied with the giant and he still confuses me to this day. I know I should dislike him, may be even hate him for what he has done to countless boxers throughout history but spending time in his company, it is hard to resist the man's monstrous charms.

We'll never know how many fights were fixed during the heyday of Carbo's control of the sport but at least from the formation of the International Boxing Club in 1949 until Carbo and Palermo prison sentencing in 1961 corruption was so common and run of the mill that each episode was barely scandalous. Instead that whole period was scandalous.

Liston was caught clear by Ali in the second fight, Liston definitely didn't take a dive.

I wouldn't consider what appeared to be a grazing punch from a light puncher that put a iron jawed opponent down for a 10 count clear. But on the other hand if Sonny were taking a dive, why did he get up and resume fighting before the clueless ref ended it?

What is undisputable was that this fight caused a scandal which tarnished boxing and forever removed Liston as a heavyweight contender.

Another scandal that doesnt get talked about alot was when the IBF got raided and arum admitted to bribing them for rankings,,,,, I think bob lee was the head of the ibf then, and maybe still is,,,

I dont pay much attention to any rankings anymore, not ring or the sanctioning bodies because they have all been proven to be cheats, liars, and corrupt,,,

That is why boxing is more of a spectacle and/or event than an actual main****** sport,,
Soccer football baseball basketball arent perfect but a whole hell of alot more respectable than boxing,,

boxing as a "sport" is a joke,

As for Ali-Liston II, which has been discussed here. As we never can be sure of what happened that night, I guess we'll have to settle with what our minds believe happened.

Roy Jones in Seoul was a milestone in the scandal department, as it changed the amateur boxing rules from being a sport well worth watching to a completely different sport, a definitely bore to be confronted with as a spectator. And with the new rules, it became a lot harder for amateurs turning pros to adept the professional style of fighting.

I remembered when IBF first showed up, we welcomed it (I even believe alphabet haters The Ring did), because the organization promised to be independent and act in basis of true sportsmanship, clearing up the mess WBA and WBC had created. We would soon find out, that that wasn’t IBF:s intentions.

It came to no one’s surprise when finally “Lee resigned as the IBF's president upon conviction on racketeering and other violations for taking bribes in exchange for high boxer rankings”.

Unfortunately, some greedy, unscrupulous businessmen think the sport is their territory. And that the fighters who are risking their health and lives ain't nothing more than simple, replaceable items

Why just suspend the judges in the Roy Jones gold medal fight? If it was so bad, why not reverse the decision and give Jones the gold medal, if it was proven that those judges were coerced? Boxing needs to show some balls and at least attempt put a stop to all this corruption.

                      Agreed Anthony.....

.....the Seoul Olympics ranks as one of the weirdest/dirtiest Games of all time and amateur boxing's lowest, grubbiest hour.

Jones was absolutely robbed - not behind the scenes - but in front of the world's media and blatantly so. The US boxing team should have got on a plane and let the Koreans deal with the fall-out.

You also had the spectacle of another Korean boxer Jung II Byun mounting a pathetic sit-down protest having clearly had his ears boxed-off by the excellent Bulgarian Hristov.

Presumably Byun's imbecillic behaviour was based on the fact that he fully expected to get the nod whatever Hristov did in the ring.
