    Dokes vs Holmes

There's a couple of posters in a different thread claiming that Michael Dokes would have beaten Larry Holmes.

My opinion is no ****ing way. Dokes was fast but that's it, Larry is flat out the better fighter.

    Opinions?

Michael was Larry's sparring partner for a minute. Larry himself said Michael could hit, but couldn't handle his jab. By 1983, if Michael didn't have his personal demons running thngs for him, he would have developed into the fighter who could have beaten him. More so than Cooney.

Holmes should've left no question and cleaned out the division and not let all those B-Level guys like Dokes linger around holding "world titles".

One of the reasons why Holmes just barely makes my 10 all-time heavies...as excellent a boxer as he was.

I don't totally blame Larry for the lack of unification in the division, at least in the first half of his reign. His second half of his reign, he has to take a lot of the blame, since he was in it for the money. And knew Page, Thomas, and possibly Williams and Witherspoon in rematches could clean his clock. Tate had a very good chance of beating him, however.

If Carl Williams can last with Larry, as well as Tim Witherspoon, I think Michael can as well.

I would be my home and yearly salary that Larry beats the hell out of him.
