Meldrick Taylor was certainly an awesome talent in the ring. I agree though, that Mcgirt looked stale after the first. I suspect possibly that Mcgirts camp thought that Mcgirt could handle Taylors speed and that Mcgirts counter punching would pay dividends. But Mcgirt could not handle Taylors speed and was slapped around for 12 rounds until his corner just stepped in and said that's enough punishment. Or maybe his camp training didn't click with his bodies timing and therefore he just looked stale.........Rockin'
Buddy was a solid fighter, but he was spent, taking nothing away from Meldrick, he dominated from round 2 until the great Al Certo stopped the fight. Buddy had 4 fights in a little over a year , that’s a lot of training and it looked like he had no legs.
Now go watch McGirt fight with The Simon Brown and see a completely different guy. You have to miss when real fighters like Buddy McGirt who fought Meldrick Taylor/ simon Brown/ pernell Whitaker/ Livingston Bramble/ Frankie Warren

I guess his body couldn't take it. There was a time when guys, like GGG and even Mayweather, would fight 3-4 times a year on a regular basis.
Some may argue that he was on a higher level than Chavez Sr. in terms of overall talent - until the beating.
Yeah, that's one of those fights were fans say Chavez took Taylor's soul. I remember on Legendary Nights, I don't know if it was the same episode or not, but William Nack saying once that fighting spirit is beat out of you, it's gone forever. Taylor's last fight should have been long before 2002.
