How would these heavyweights do in the modern division ?

    All in their primes,

Larry Holmes- 6'3" 81" 210 pounds (Giachetti in corner)

Mike Tyson- 5'10" 71" 212 pounds (Rooney in corner)

Evander Holyfield- 6'2" 218 pounds (Steward in corner)

Lennox Lewis- 6'5" 247 pounds (Steward in corner)

Vitali Klitschko- 6'7" 245 pounds (Sdunek in corner)

Wladimir Klitschko- 6'5" 240 pounds (Steward in corner)

Could they rise to the top today ?

You're shaving off at least 6 lbs there for prime Mike there, who was always between 216-218 lbs during his peak years.

I agree with GhostofDempsey and OctoberRed.

Every one of those guys in their prime would be the champ today, hands-down no questions.

                - -What about tomorrow which has come and gone and will continue to come and go until the duration of Time as counted by humans?

Both of the Ks the most active in this decade and the closest to TODAY, so they'd have to be the favs given how instrumental they were in perfecting the Big Man style that has redefined the division.

All the rest have substantial natural attributes and intellectually intelligent enough to adapt to modern conditions today, but all that could change tomorrow if boxing decides to alter those conditions drastically as they scramble to remain relevant in what has become a fringe sport. Mr. Field would be the sole exception as I never saw a spark of IQ out of him.

See WWE as the most radical example of how a historical sport can be altered.

Speaking of WWE, that thread about the Joe Louis gauntlet reminded me of the 2 gauntlet matches that just took place on the last 2 episodes of WWE Smackdown.
