Hey, I can give you a real reason to cry, cutie.

Please, show me the footage where Charles is hacking down men twice his size. Show me when Dempsey quit because things got too rough.

Dempsey came of age in a cruder era. Still, he managed to have better offense and head-movement than Charles. Ya know, the guy who was a contemporary of Willie Pep.

Swap their up-brinings and Dempsey is still remembered as the greatest Heavyweight ever, and no ones knows who the fook Ezzard Charles is.

If you don't know Boxing, why are you here?

Me not. Different strokes and all that.
She made an insightful observation about the fight that I hadn't considered. And it was accurate.

It's not her fault Anthony Joshua was overrated.

And what makes her a thug, by the way?

AJ set no record. Not a meaningful one, anyway. And his hype bubble just burst.

Claressa knows how to think quite well based on the analysis she gave of this fight. You haven't clarified how she is a thug yet and now you're ranting about a thug network. Are you going to explain any of that, Queenie?

              - -What, you don't understand a thug when you see how the act?

              Ex:

              Bowe a dumb thug

Lewis pretentious and a bit daft, but civilized.

Field dumb, pretentious, and a drug cheat, but never a thug.

Tyson mentally i11 needing medication and could be dangerous off his meds, and too easily defrauded of his substantial assets and had no business fighting post prison, but had good boxing intelligence and reasonably civilized on his meds.

You never did say what little nugget he/she/it stuck between your ears.

90% of the time I mute boxing commentary so I can watch the boxing free of their incessant blather meant to drown out the sounds of the fight.

Most boxers make terrible commentary. I liked when Quarry, Norton, and Coony did guest commentary and of course Big George a long gig on HBO was blissfully short and insightful, but only with heavyweights. Roy could be insightful, but mostly made his commentary all about Roy instead of the fighters. Been hitting the mute button for the last 15 yrs now.

The best commentator was Merchant who never tried to jabber over the action , short and succinct, and sometime even Shakespearian.

Harold kind of a ham over the top added good insight into officiating in his off camera roll that was short and insightful, so that'd be a better team structure than a squadron of gibbering monkeys in suits.

And I don't watch women's boxing and never have though some are quite fetching and seem to be good ambassadors for their sport , not thugs!

I agree, most commentators in general are annoying and distracting. My pet peeve is that we can easily train a microphone to pick up what fighters are saying to each other after it's over, but the commentators won't shut up.

Yes, sometimes I turn the sound off and do my own fantasy-commentary...wish there was a channel where you could isolate and just have the ambient sound.

Jim Watt and the Pocket Rocket were hard to understand, period. I liked Sean O'Grady on the old USA fights. After a fighter is clocked: "He's stepping in post holes!" Sugar Ray Leonard would actually say, "He's on ***** Street."

Paulie...dunno, that Brooklyn accent makes most anyone sound dumb. I recall Tarver as doing a pretty good job. Carl Froch isn't bad. I remember Manny Steward doing a good job too.

Of the non-boxers, Mauro is currently the worst. He's a loud phony. If you're going to be an Excitable Boy, do it like Al Albert or Marv Albert did it, and be tense but not ridiculous. Don't come to the microphone with a sheaf of prepared "ad-libs" that involve ****** puns and wordplay. You can tell when that he's waiting to drop in a prepared line. And ditch the catch-phrase "Mamma Mia." The two British guys seem the least intrusive, Adam Smith and John Rawling.

Larry Merchant took his time. He didn't feel compelled to babble. He was both a good analyst and interviewer.

I've always liked Al Bernstein, despite his "Oh My!" reactions to solid punches. He's humble and knows his stuff. I suppose opinions will always be divided on Howard Cosell, for those who remember him.

An odd thing about the old-time announcers. None of them ever said "he's fighting off the back foot." Or "there's a level change." Every now and then somebody comes up with a new catch-phrase and flogs it to death.

Get used to it, lads, only one poster on this forum knew months ago that Anthony Juicua was massively overrated and said so every chance he got--that would be yours truly, myself.

It sure is nice, though, that one little, fat Mexican shut thousands of loudmouthed limeys up. Anyone who thinks Juicua is something special is a halfwit who DKSAB, of course. That's automatic.

I've never understood the mind-blowing hype around Ali. Yes, he was a spectacular HW and part of some of the greatest rivalries in the sport but there is not as much skill to it. He blocked so many punches with his face, it makes you wonder why they call him the greatest.

He might have been one of the pioneers of trash talking which was not a common thing at the time. Ali took it to a whole new level. On this I can agree - yes, he created so much hype around his fights that people just felt like they would miss something really important in their lives if they didn't watch him fight.

Other than that, I think the sport has seen quite a number of boxers that can fairly be considered as "The Greatest" for their boxing skills and Ali is not one of them.
