How good was Carlos De Leon?

    He passed away Wednesday morning.

Never really paid much attention to the cruiserweights so I don't know much about him. Looks like he held a title at that weight four separate times. Lost to Evander Holyfield by knockout in a fight to unify all the belts.

Ended up with a ledger of 53-8-1 with 33 KOs.

Everyone says he was overshadowed by guys like Holyfield and others, if he was around today he'd have much more stature.

Very good, top 10 Puerto Rican boxer for sure, like OctoberRed said he's overshadowed by Evander Holyfield as are most at Cruiser, maybe as the division gathers more depth he'll get more recognition but with it being so shallow only Holyfield is really recognized as the great Cruiser.

Sadly, I most remember him for his title fight draw against Johnny Nelson in 1990 (because it might very well be THE worst title bout of all-time).
Sad, because it was the first time he got big exposure in front of an European TV-crowd.
As I recall it, Carlos was lifted off his chair by his cornermen before rounds, he seemed completely washed-up.
Definitely not the same guy as in his heyday.

          - -I'd say JC Gomez as good or better and definitely Usyk who already has a better record at field's heavy weight fights.

              - -Usyk skipped the puny Field 190 division to be fighting in his natural 215 division.

Gomez was undefeated, 33-0 when he moved to the 190+ division. Overall he has more wins, KOs, and less losses in spite of his ******* predilections. As a 6-4 speedy Southpaw, at heavy where Field started to fall apart in sections, and keep in mind they coulda fought since he hs his last fight around the same time as Field, perfect style to beat him.

I'll bring up his record shortly.
