    The Ring Magazine Monthly Rankings

Has anyone ever complied, on the Internet, the month by month rankings from The Ring Magazine?

There is in the Annual Ring Rankings an innate flaw between assessment and publication.

The 1989 HW rankings has Mike Tyson in the #1 position.*** (These rankings appeared in the April 1990 issue.)

The 1990 HW rankings have Evander Holyfield in the #1 slot. (These rankings appeared in the April 1991 issue.)

Buster Douglas of course took the HW Title from Mike Tyson in February of '90 and then lost it to Holyfield in October of the same year.

Thus Buster Douglas never appears in the Annual Ring Rankings' #1 spot.

I ask, because while trying to investigate the age old argument of "ducking" -- as in, who is in what spot at what time -- the Annual Ring Rankings can be unintentionally deceiving.

Runs for the championship often have a 12 to 18 month life attached to them and while their logic would appear in the month-by-month rankings, they can get swallowed up and disappear in the Annual Rankings.

*** This is a time when The Ring wasn't recognizing champions; the #1 slot denoted the champion.

I'm sure I've seen it done before but can't remember by who. Best guess would be someone like McGrain over at ESB and boxingscenes's Cliff Rold, who I believe are both founding members.

      - -After Nat passed and his son in law relinquished, things went south pretty fast.

Oddly it took Oscar to save it for better or worse.
