Ring stopped recognizing world champions when the magazine was sold to Stanley Weston's company in late 1989. That's why all the titles are listed as vacant. Tyson was definitely the champ.

I believe Weston brought his ideas of rankings from his former magazines, World Boxing/International Boxing/Big Book of Boxing, which later emerged into the K.O. magazine.
Those mags never listed a specific champion, just ranked fighters from 1 to 10.

A blow to The Ring tradition, that there could only be one world champ in each weight class.

Though, Weston's mags were good reading.

Our library system stopped stocking the mag over a decade ago and I never seen it on a magazine rack since forever now.

Yep, Weston bringing his ratings system over from his other mags was the reason. He, or his writers, saw the futility of trying to keep track of organizational champions in 1977 when they switched to that system. I'm sure he had no idea of how bad it would become, though.
