Ali was an instinctive fighter for the most part; he went with the flow and fought very "natural" fights, which was one of his biggest strengths because you can't really have a game plan to fight a guy like that because you never really know what he's going to do...you only have an idea. Ali was like water, shapeless and could change his game plan at a moment's notice if the opponent's game plan called for it....as he did againt Foreman.
    That's a great post Brother K.

Ali was a creative innovator who adapted, invented or developed strategies as they presented themselves often within fights as opposed to more rigid technical styles that stick with the game plan.

If boxers were musicians Joe Louis would be Mozart.

Ali would be Miles Davis or Jimi Hendrix.

        - -I'm with Pollack here.

I believe this to be a prolific author, Adam I think, of boxing bios, so it'd be interesting to know the reason he was banned.

        Promoting his bios?

No doubt Clay was a complete fighter. The Marciano would be one of the few that one could brag was more complete, since he never lost and never needed to change much. I will give Clay credit though. He was a good little fighter too. Pep, Clay and the Marciano all belong in the top class, with Rocky at the table's head.
