there is much research on this topic for purchase on the web as well as through organizations like the American Academy of Sports Dentistry. I'm not in the habit of paying for information then passing it out on the web for free. I have no idea who you really are, yet you know who I am. Your questions are very technical, a little research will answer them.

      you're very helpful....

i'm just a guy who started boxing who did some research. i just know that you're the owner of customguard and name is john because you post it up on threads and i read them.
      yes i did some research
4mm is the sweet spot you say. but some say 5.5 is like the best protection or something so i'm jus confused and wanted to just make clear of the answer and i thoguht you would help, being the owner of customguards that you are. seems like you don't want to give advice because you have no idea who i am. you seemed much more helpful in other posts. and more willing to give advice/info. =(

My information is not based on my opinion or what any other mouthguard company has to say, that is called marketing. The 4mm sweet spot is from university studies done by independent researchers and then published in journals. I have to purchase this information and there now seems to be many start ups moving into the field (custom mouthguards) as of now I know of four that read these sites, and I will give out as much information as I can without giving up trade secrets or private research I don't want to move them up learning curve for free. Some have even called to ask about our production methods and names of suppliers so I know they have a long way to go. i have purchased all of them and they are still way behind and I like that way

ah i see what you mean.
yeah you told me 4mm is the sweet spot i was just asking if it wuold be good to get 4mm for like heavy sparring and such. elite is like 2 3mm and 1 2mm? = 8 mm?

i'm not one of those custom mouthguard field people. i just want to find out the right size to get the most protection.

the thicknesses you mention are pre-processing you lose about 25-30% of the thickness during manufacturing. Obviously the thicker the guard the more protection, it is a comfort issue the elite is more protective and the pro more comfortable without giving up much protection. Early next year we will have on the site the combat pro and the combat elite, slightly thicker in only very specific areas. The combat guards will act much the same as a double. Bernard Hopkins wears a pro, most professional mma fighters wear an elite combat

go to this website. Rudy Tellez made mine. He is a WBC official and makes them for many pros. De la Hoya being one of them. His price varies depending on make, model, and experience (amatuer/pro).

My dentist told me to go to him.

although you said that rudy tellez makes it for dlh =\ i have never heard of them before. so it's hard to believe that they are good =\ doesn't really say that dlh uses it either.
